zooer Posted February 20, 2011 #1 Posted February 20, 2011 Is J&M really the best headset? Is there really any difference between the Elite and the Performance models? Hard to believe there is not another brand out there somewhere that compares.
Monty Posted February 20, 2011 #2 Posted February 20, 2011 I am happy with the Elites. Haven't tried anything else.
Tom Posted February 20, 2011 #3 Posted February 20, 2011 BIG difference in the standard model from the Elite series..Edsets are suppose to be good too but I have the Elite 584 and they are superb
Freebird Posted February 20, 2011 #4 Posted February 20, 2011 I've tried several. I've owned cheap and expensive J&M, AirRider and Edsets. I prefer the Edsets over all the rest.
Midnight V-4 Posted February 21, 2011 #5 Posted February 21, 2011 Any recommendations for half/shorty helmets? I have a cheap pair that I had to modify for half helmets.
kbran Posted February 21, 2011 #6 Posted February 21, 2011 I've tried several. I've owned cheap and expensive J&M, AirRider and Edsets. dynodon Posted February 21, 2011 #7 Posted February 21, 2011 I have had good luck with the cheap J&M's, but there are others, just got a helmet with EdSets so we can find out more about them, like the features. But here is another option, WingStuff.com has a good selection and they do installs also, and for less money than J&M.
slick97spirit Posted February 21, 2011 #8 Posted February 21, 2011 So far I've had the cheap and the Elites in the J&M's and I can tell you there is a world of difference between the two. The only thing that I would use the cheap ones for was the intercom. It drove me nuts to try to listen to music through them. They were horrible for music. The thing I don't understand is if they can make a $20 pair of ipod headsets sound so good, why don't they use that same technology in these types of headsets. Some of those ipod headsets sound great and are not expensive. The set I use while running sound awesome. I've thought alot about trying to figure out a way to use those in my helmet.
Tom Posted February 21, 2011 #9 Posted February 21, 2011 one more thing it may or may not be a good price but Sierra MC electronics has the elite for $165 now
slick97spirit Posted February 21, 2011 #10 Posted February 21, 2011 one more thing it may or may not be a good price but Sierra MC electronics has the elite for $165 now If that's the J&M Elites, that's a great price over buying them direct.
Freebird Posted February 21, 2011 #11 Posted February 21, 2011 Sierra is pretty much ALWAYS cheaper than buying direct and a fantastic company to work with. I've dealt with Sierra for over 10 years and they are just a great company.
HIGH TECH REDNECK Posted March 1, 2011 #12 Posted March 1, 2011 I bought two JM at Thunder Beach last year for the price of one and LOOOVE THEM. Then I added the edsets plug and play ( MicSplit-Venture-No ) so that I can talk into the cellphone and now it's perfect. Great service at the JM booth.
Squidley Posted March 1, 2011 #13 Posted March 1, 2011 I dont run headsets as I have half helmets and listen through the bikes speakers. I do have a J&M microphone for the CB transmitting and everyone I have talked with says mine is very clear. I have been happy with the J&M product I am running, I have almost $400 in 2 helmets with all the piecing together of it all. I bought them at Sierra Electronics like Don spoke of, very happy with their service.
zooer Posted March 2, 2011 Author #14 Posted March 2, 2011 Thanks for all the great posts. I finally got a chance to listen to both of J@M models and played some Boston Pops music. :wow:I can tell you that there is a huge "as in big" difference between their cheaper model and the best:banana: You get what you pay for. I did buy the best high priced model and I guess I'll have to test an EDSET another time. Thanks to all.
Jazzmann320 Posted March 4, 2011 #15 Posted March 4, 2011 Hi Folks.. been reading the thread here and just wanted to let everyone know.. if you are in the market for the JM Headsets, that Sierra has almost all of JM headsets on closeout pricing.. http://www.sierra-mc.com/products.asp?cat=326. $155 - $175 per headset depending on model. These are last years models that they are clearing out.
MasterGuns Posted March 4, 2011 #16 Posted March 4, 2011 Any headset is going to sound cheap when hooked up to a cheap, low watt output stereo system. Improve the sound system and you'll improve the sound coming in through the headset.
ashley9187 Posted March 4, 2011 #17 Posted March 4, 2011 I have to be honest here. I am really confused about the various cords to have to chose from. You have to select from various types of lower end, z cords. You select at headset and then you have to select cords. Choices, CHOICES why cant it be simple?? Lost in Texas. Rick A.
