royalstar09 Posted February 14, 2011 #1 Posted February 14, 2011 What a nice bike. I was slightly nervous at first. The ride is great. Handles good. Felt a little "light" in the front end to me for some reason, but I am sure that will go away. Has pretty good power for a big bike. Definetly needs pipes though.........

eusa1 Posted February 14, 2011 #3 Posted February 14, 2011 you should have some diamond cut fins too!!
SMSgt Posted February 14, 2011 #4 Posted February 14, 2011 Pipes huh???? Before long it will need lots more chrome, preformance, ect. There is always something they "need'" at least that's what you are going to tell your wife. :rotf:

She has seen me "polish turds" and make good money, so their is a lot of trust their. I have pipes, ign cover, spare power outlet (for special project), shorter windshield, license plate lights, and few other small things on the way. nothing I own is ever "done"
MikeWa Posted February 14, 2011 #6 Posted February 14, 2011 The power is much improved if you keep the rpm up. The pipes will sound better after about 12k. Ride Safe and Be Happy Mike

Ride Safe and Be Happy Mike Yeah I twisted the rpms up between gears pretty high I thought (5,000). Not sure where a good shift point is but that was working well. I used the cruise momentarily, but being new on bike I cancelled quickly, just wanted to feel how the cruise reacted. I will be putting quite a few miles on this week hopefully.
Rick Haywood Posted February 14, 2011 #8 Posted February 14, 2011 . nothing I own is ever "done" My wife wanted to know the same thing one time. I told her there is always something new for our bikes. She is cool with it since she loves to ride also and likes the bike to look good. She will help me clean it... She is a keeper, that is if she thinks I am a keeper:fingers-crossed-emo

Good shift point is when the rev limiter kicks in. That's somewhere around 96 (indicated) in 3rd. Then feel it kick you on the pants when you shift to 4th...
Aimhigh Posted February 14, 2011 #12 Posted February 14, 2011 Glad you could get out and enjoy a ride...the venture is a great bike, you should be able to enjoy for years to come. You certainly have a pretty state to put the miles on it...I really enjoy riding thru MO.

On my 83, which is stock other than Jardine mufflers, a good shift point is about 8,000 rpms, but you got a second gen and .........well, I won't say anymore cause you are new here. RandyA
ashley9187 Posted February 15, 2011 #14 Posted February 15, 2011 I had a real good ride this past Saturday. About 10 of us from my club had a ride to Vander Pool TX, we put about 174 miles that day and had a real nice lunch in the historic town of Bandera. Lots of dead dear along the road tho. Lots of twisties and beautiful country to look at. Temp was in the mid 60's that day. Rick A.
