Rockdoc Posted February 15, 2011 #26 Posted February 15, 2011 Any of you guys run the Tioga Pass into Yosemite via Mono Lake. How does it rate to the Beartooth or for that matter, some of the passes going west out of Death Valley?
Condor Posted February 15, 2011 #27 Posted February 15, 2011 Any of you guys run the Tioga Pass into Yosemite via Mono Lake. How does it rate to the Beartooth or for that matter, some of the passes going west out of Death Valley? I ran it in a VW bus about 30 years ago out of Lee Vining/Hwy395. It was pretty spectacular. If I remember correctly it was in July right after the pass opened, and it still had 2-3 feet of snow on the top. Went over late afternoon, no traffic, and stopped to pick up a couple of hitch hikers freezing their arses off right at the top. One of these days I'm going to two wheel it.... Tioga is more high alpine, while the Tooth is more top of the world vistas....
Rockdoc Posted February 15, 2011 #28 Posted February 15, 2011 OK, thats useful. By the way, is your pic of one of the Grand Canyon condor's? If so, we saw two when we did the same trip in 2008
