goatturtle Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 Was working on bike today and got it back together and noticed that the fuel gauge was not working, it was before. any ideas? '86 Venture royal
Snaggletooth Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 Don't know how far you were into the bike but if you had the seat off I'd check the connections on the sending unit. Pulled mine loose once.
mbrood Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 The sending unit is simply a wire wound resistor with a sliding wiper... the manual calls for a simple resistance check... http://www.bergall.org/temp/venture/gas-gauge.jpg
bongobobny Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 Exactly where were you working and on what?? Maybe the dash needs resoldxcering at the input connector, a common problem... sorry, deleted info was for Mbrood...
dingy Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 Here is a different angle of the picture mbrood posted above. The copper wiper arm in the center of the picture, rubs along the left side of the wire wound resistor as shown in picture. A known problem with this is the resistor tends to bow in the middle causing the wiper arm to lose contact. At the very left of the picture, there is a small screw that can be loosened to adjust the wiper arm contact tension. Gary http://i1007.photobucket.com/albums/af193/gdingy101/PICT5655s.jpg
bongobobny Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 Yah! that they do!! You can adjust the tension slightly on those. Also, I have a spare in unknown condition of you need one, n/c...
