titansedriver Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 OK guys--I think my starter is fried--My question is-do you have to remove the Outside cover to remove the starter?--I have the bolts out and it's loose but will not release ......................Larry
Snaggletooth Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 Ok...let the fun begin. The starter is only held on by the two bolts that you see. The starter body extends into the case and has an O-ring on it and it is a tight fit. Pulling it straight back and a wiggle will get it out. But.....in order to remove it you will need to remove the thermostat housing to get the room you need to remove the starter body. That can be a bear at times. Look and see if the screwsare still Phillips heads or maybe have been changed to Allens. Hope for Allens. Pray for them. That's another story if you have problems. It is also helpful to remove the bolts that hold the radiator in place so you can pull that forward a bit. Don't need to remove the hoses.....just a lil more room. But what is the issue with the starter? I always ask first before pulling one out. Opps......forgot about the other thread. Proceed....... Mike
