Just so my soapbox was legal...

Sang with the "Sounds of America" for 5 years doing shows all over the US. Probably sang the National Anthem hundreds of times. Can't say I ever forgot the words. Did it traditionally every time. The shows were done for many companies, groups and every division of the military. It was our patriotic DUTY to do it correctly.

My rant stands.... do it right or dont get paid.

While in the Air Force I also sang the National Anthem hundreds of times for basically any official base function. I considered it an honor and made sure I got it right. I also did it unaccompanied so any flaw would have stuck out like a turd in a punch bowl (talk about pressure) so TD is absolutely correct; It ain't easy but on the same token don't mess with the lyrics or tempo and DO NOT make it an audition to show off your range. Show the song some respect for what it stands for. I say send the money she was going to be paid to the Veteran's Administration.

Ok climbing down from the soapbox; can someone get me a ladder?

I heard one of the country singers sing the whole thing once and it was nice, first time I had ever heard it sang in it's entirety.

Oh, say, can you see, by the dawn's early light,

What so proudly we hail'd at the twilight's last gleaming?

Whose broad stripes and bright stars, thro' the perilous fight,

O'er the ramparts we watch'd, were so gallantly streaming?

And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air,

Gave proof thro' the night that our flag was still there.

O say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave

O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

On the shore dimly seen thro' the mists of the deep,

Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes,

What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep,

As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?

Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,

In full glory reflected, now shines on the stream:

'Tis the star-spangled banner: O, long may it wave

O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore

That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion

A home and a country should leave us no more?

Their blood has wash'd out their foul footsteps' pollution.

No refuge could save the hireling and slave

From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave:

And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave

O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

O, thus be it ever when freemen shall stand,

Between their lov'd homes and the war's desolation;

Blest with vict'ry and peace, may the heav'n-rescued land

Praise the Pow'r that hath made and preserv'd us a nation!

Then conquer we must, when our cause is just,

And this be our motto: "In God is our trust"

And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave

O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

Chief weren't they talking about "America the Beautiful"? You are talking about the Star Spangled Banner here aren't you?

Just askin'

I thought the thread was talking about the National Anthem (The Star Spangled Banner), I guess I missed the "America The Beautiful comments" I will have to go back and read all the posts again.

The entire song is seldom sung and that is a shame. When I was in the 6th grade (long time ago) if we had detention for some reason, you could not do any other homework until you had passed off to the teacher ,Miss Schilling, the 2nd and 3rd verses of the national anthem. Our version however had your 2nd and 4th as the 2nd and 3rd.I have never seen that version before, thank you for posting it.

You know.....this would have been a better half time show. :)

That was what I call a true patriotic perfromance

They should have hired these girls....

these young girls out performed Christine a million to one and should have been there instead. Nothing inspires respect for national anthem and country to the masses better then when properly sung by young people at these type of events
