Does the oil filter go on the bolt BEFORE the spring and washer (pic 1)

OR

Does the spring and washer go on the bolt before the oil filter (pic 2)

 

From what I'm viewing on the parts catalogue it looks like pic 2 should be correct but it's not absolutely clear, (to this mind at the moment) and I'm sure I've taken these parts off the bolt in BOTH configurations.

And before a sharp eye notices...YES, I've got a new o-ring on the bolt...these pics are off the spare parts that are piling up too quickly around here.

I put mine together with the washer against the oil filter. The washer keeps the spring from damaging rubber grommet in filter.

 

I am guessing it is a 1st gen with a handle like Swifty, hard to tell though without going to your profile. :buttkick:

I would say pic 1 is the correct one. The parts book shows the washer as the 1st part slide on, followed by the "O" ring and then the spring. there's also a spring between the filter and cover. Gary could be right too. Guess it's a toss up eh?

Gary's right.

 

 

The Spring pushes Filter to the Casing, the Washer save the Rubber Seal from being ripped apart from the Spring.

Good job not throwing the washer out with the old filter. I keep a supply of them on hand because they've often been discarded in a previous oil change.

I didn't think to look at forum where it was posted at.

 

I hardly ever go to the sub forums unless I am looking for an old post.

 

It seems most all of the posts show up in the watering hole.

bolt, spring (4), washer (5) then filter with attached rubber grommets...

If you go to user CP then edit details you can add the type of bike you ride, not what you want, then people do not have to go into your profile to see what type of bike you ride. :think:

Not tobe a pain but I think you need to use that alum. metal cup thingy , that covers the oil filter that bolt gos through , not just use the bolt and spring only to hold the oil filter on , use less oil that way ? anyway thats how we do down here .

THAT method still involves MORE mouse clicks than if they'd just put it in the correct thread topic to begin with because the topic of the thread can be seen without ANY mouse clicks....it's all about being FAST .......and furious, Ladies and Gentlemen.
