FreezyRider Posted February 2, 2011 #2 Posted February 2, 2011 Hi everyone,, I just came across a 2001 RSV for $5000 w/12,000 mi. in great shape! Can I get some comments on the bike and the value? Thanks, Steve Ride it. If it doesn't "scream" (clutch whine/chirp) in an offensive way, then it would be a good buy IF it has been properly maintained over the last 10 years. Since it hasn't been ridden much you would want to check the tires (make sure they are "fresh", not just good tread), probably change all fluids including brake/clutch, antifreeze, rear end oil, engine oil, and remove the rear drive so you can clean the drive pins and grease the splines. Is this the green/silver color? My personal favorite....
Venture Steve Posted February 2, 2011 Author #3 Posted February 2, 2011 It is the Silver/Green! It looks great! It seems to ride good! The carbs were just redone. Is this just an OK deal, or a steel? Steve
Yammer Dan Posted February 2, 2011 #4 Posted February 2, 2011 If has been taken care of. Hasn't been dropped I would sure check it out. I don't think price is bad at all for Great ride. (Yes I said that!!)
Freebird Posted February 2, 2011 #6 Posted February 2, 2011 If there are no problems with it and it has been properly maintained and a good (not salvage) title, it sounds like a steal to me.
eagleeye Posted February 2, 2011 #7 Posted February 2, 2011 Buy It!! Quick or someone else will! That's a fact! If it is for real, it won't be around long. Good luck, Steve
steamer Posted February 2, 2011 #8 Posted February 2, 2011 Why so low$$$.sounds to good to be true.are they hurting for $$$.do they have the title?
Bobby G Posted February 2, 2011 #9 Posted February 2, 2011 My '99 in great shape with 29,990 miles was $5,750. If this bike is in good shape, buy it!
Squidley Posted February 2, 2011 #10 Posted February 2, 2011 If there are no problems with it and it has been properly maintained and a good (not salvage) title, it sounds like a steal to me.
bongobobny Posted February 2, 2011 #11 Posted February 2, 2011 I agree, sounds like a terriffic deal as long as everything is OK! Check the date code on the tires, if older than 6 years old, get rid of them regtardless of how much tread...
Steel Horse Cowboy Posted February 2, 2011 #12 Posted February 2, 2011 I bought my 99 RSV, 33,000 miles in June 2010, it was very well maintained. They wanted $6500.00, I offered $5700.00, got it for $5800.00, needless to say I was one happy camper. I'm sure this one you are lookin at won't last long, especially with spring comin on. C.R.
wes0778 Posted February 2, 2011 #13 Posted February 2, 2011 Ok :stickpoke: I bought my '99 a year and a half ago with 16,700 miles for $4500.00 I think THAT was a steal!!!
straycatt Posted February 2, 2011 #14 Posted February 2, 2011 If there is nothing wrong with it........ it's not a steal, but it IS a very good deal.
trandeod Posted February 3, 2011 #15 Posted February 3, 2011 I bought a 99 with 12,000 miles in December for $3500. I figured it would cost me more but when he priced it, I just said OK sounds good to me..! Everything works, looks good,, but I'm going to do the carbs...I believe I have some lacqered up jets....not completely plugged but not completely open yet either....I say yet because I'm still running seafoam through them. I had a 2005 RSV and even though I have another pretty good bike, I still missed the RSV too...Just grab it and enjoy they are a good bike. I rode my RSV around Bristol Speedway at 91.6 and still had more throttle but I could feel the rear wheel breaking loose just slightly.
warriorhoneybee Posted February 3, 2011 #16 Posted February 3, 2011 if it checks out its a great deal, just dont do like i did and thought i checked it out, take your time and ride it in different terain and than realy take your time and go over it with a fine tooth comb, again not like i did. good luck.
Venture Steve Posted February 3, 2011 Author #17 Posted February 3, 2011 Thanks everyone!! It is mine now!!! I just drove it home (50 Miles) and every thing seems great!! The bike was just serviced in late December, Carbs rebuilt, fuel filter replaced, Fuel tank cleaned out, Plugs replaced, oil and filter replaced. And there is 5 months remaining on an extended warranty! And I did not pay $5000!! (I hope this does not sound like I am bragging!!) I am sure I will wake up in the middle of the night and say,, what the Hell! Thanks again,, Will upload photos soon! P.S. I have a 1984 VR for sale now! Steve

bongobobny Posted February 3, 2011 #19 Posted February 3, 2011 Fantastic!!!!! You may consider keeping the 1st gen for times that you want to go fast though...
FuzzyRSTD Posted February 4, 2011 #20 Posted February 4, 2011 Good for you. Hope everything works out great with the new bike. You are making me think about buying a Venture too. I have a Tour Deluxe, and love it. Bought it new. But I still sometimes wish I had a Venture, especially when my wife rides with me. They have the extra comforts for the better half. If I could just get her to believe that a man needs two bikes ..... :mo money::cool10:
