DOH

I see that I type to slow and missed the main event.

You might be slow, but you asked really good questions.

I have removed several of these and I have never had a problem when using the punch method.

Ah yes, you definately need to talk to these things. The tougher it is the more talk that is needed AND a little name calling is usually called for. A few curse words never hurt either.:whistling:

Congrats on being able to overcome that hunk of metal.:clap2::clap2::thumbsup2:

MarCarl,

Do not fret about the puller...

Go to the local hardware shop and buy wideest hardned (black) nut the same size as what the end of your puller "use to be". Then have it "mig" welded to the end of the puller shaft...

Hey, It's all good

You can also buy (2) nuts and weld to one to the inner side of puller and one for the end of the center shaft. Make sure you thread center shaft thru nut and puller, and finger tighten, before you weld. Do not tighten more than finger tight!

This will give more threads bearing the load... oiling threads helps tremendously...

Something that no one has mentioned.

That flywheel has ceramic magnets in it.

Ceramic magnets do not like heat or shock/vibration.

Be careful with the torch and banging on things or you may end up with the nice working starter and no charger.

Impact can also be hard on the puller.

Now for the dumb obvious questions; But I have to ask.

Did you oil the threads of the puller?

Did you take out the bolt that holds the flywheel on?

Are you certain that you puller is pressing on the end of the crank and not the end of the flywheel?

Are you using a puller that has a ball and socket pad on the end? Did you grease it?

When you put in the 3 pull bolts, did you put them in only finger tight and not tighten them with a wrench?

yes sir, all good questions and believe you me, there was many times I checked to make sure all was in order,,,,, I thought this was going to be a pig to deal with and that was right,,,,, course I grew up with hogs on the farm and in the slaughter house, and all those who thought to think otherwise all ended up in the sausage,,, so now another to add to the list. Bring it on!!!!! I'll take all comers!!!
