ken Posted November 14, 2007 #1 Posted November 14, 2007 I have this neighbor, he's an older guy. He has a mint 1st gen 1300 parked in his garage around 8,000 miles on it. I've lived in my house going on four years and only saw him ride it once or twice. He will go out to his garage and just start it up, let it run for a bit and then shut it off. I feel sorry for the bike, it sound great and I'm sure it just want to get out there and run.........
dunvilsteev Posted November 14, 2007 #2 Posted November 14, 2007 Poor guy, poor bike! Going by a buddy from work, who does seem to know his stuff, starting up idling and then shutting off builds up a liquid in the exhaust system that is very caustic and eats the metal. I heard him warning a guy who stores his bike in the winter in a garage, and then goes over to run and charge it up a bit during the wonderful Canadian winters we have. Im sure someone will reply as to my being right or full of "good intentions". Maybe something to warn him about, then ..... I see a neighbourly inheritance coming your way.... no need to thank me
cowpuc Posted November 14, 2007 #3 Posted November 14, 2007 Ken, I have been in your shoes a couple of times.. If you put any pressure on your neighbor he will end up giving to undeserving slob even if you have offered him a fair price to take if off his hands and finishing raising the scoot for him... Just something in human nature.. The way I would handle it is I would catch his wife at home and give her your phone number with a note attached reading "interested in the bike if you ever want to sell - please keep my number" and let it go at that.... Look like a innocent passer by when ya talk to her hahahaha Shame to see such a deserving scoot be abused like that BUT dont EVER say that to him!!! 'Puc
Guest maddabber Posted November 14, 2007 #4 Posted November 14, 2007 Hey maybe he is a venturerider reading this thread.
cmiles3 Posted November 14, 2007 #5 Posted November 14, 2007 The water vapor & sulfur in the gas combine and form acid. If you run it till it heats up, the mufflers will vaporize the liquid and blow it out. If you just start it and run it for short times, the mufflers don't heat up enough and the acid just sits there, eating the exhaust system. Poor guy, poor bike! Going by a buddy from work, who does seem to know his stuff, starting up idling and then shutting off builds up a liquid in the exhaust system that is very caustic and eats the metal.
dray Posted November 14, 2007 #6 Posted November 14, 2007 i would stop and talk to him if you see him out there he may just need some one to ride with lots of older folks like to ride but worry about riding alone you may just make a good friend out of it
