Passing lights

I'm considering getting passing lights for my '09 RSV and not sure what you get when you order them. I see that the passing lights requires mounts as well. If someone can clarify....

Passing lamps -STR-4XY35-10-00 => are these JUST the lights?

Passing lamp mounts - STR-3XY35-40-00 => is this the bar that the lights and turn signals attach to?

Where do I get the recommended "spacer" from?

 

Not sure I want the OEM lights if there is a better looking and more functional option. Is the Rivco 4" 55/60w a good choice? www.cruisercustomizing.com/detail.cfm?model_id=42&Category_ID=49&manufacturer_ID=11&product_ID=36682&related=short

To answer your first question, yes those are just the lights, you have to also order the mounting arm. Spacers should be acquired at any hardware store...

Now, I just clicked on the link for the Rivco, and I don't think those will mount on the light bar..

If you are referring to the spacer block that is used to hold the light bar further away from the fairing, to make fairing front removal easier, I have one. I recently lost my passing light bar to a deer and did not replace it. I just got a stock turn signal set from eBay instead. This means that I my passing lamp bar spacer is no longer being used.

 

If you or anyone else here wants the spacer block, i would appreciate a small sum in addition to the shipping costs - maybe ten or fifteen dollars plus shipping. I don't remember what i originally paid for it, but i would like to defray the cost of repairing my bike after the deer, so hence the ten or fifteen bucks.

 

I also have a pair of H7616 sealed-beam bulbs for the passing lights. They are way brighter than the stock sealed beam bulbs, and shine in a narrow spot pattern. I would like ten or fifteen plus shipping for those as well. Come to think of it, I also have the stock bulbs.

Can anyone give us the current vendor for the spacer block? Looked all through the classifieds and got nothing! The guy should add to the "member vendors".

This is what most have used I got one from Tony contact him. You are talking about the spacer that moved the light bar away from your fairing correct?

Problem:

One of the common complaints about the Yamaha passing light kit for the RSV is that it mounts so close to the fairing that removing the fairing becomes very difficult requiring one to either remove or loosen the passing light bracket.

 

Installation:

When the bracket arrives you will need 2 3/8" NC x 3/4" long bolts and lock washers. I got these at Home Depot for under two bucks. Undo your light bar.

 

Use the 8mm bolts to fasten the bracket where the light bar was and then

using the 3/8" bolts bolt the light bar to the bracket. Most of us that have

the bracket can now split the fairing without touching the light bar or at

least just loosening it a few turns. Might depend on the actual lights you

have.

 

Basically you undo the light bar, put the bracket where the bar was, then

mount the light bar to the bracket!

The following are some shots I've taken in the past! #5 shows the clearance

between the back of the light and the fairing. This started as a way of my

being able to clean between the light and the fairing. Taking the fairing

off without touching the light bar was just a huge bonus!

To answer your question properly. You first off need a first gen to even require passing lights. to put passing lights on a second gen is just a waste of time and money:witch_brew:

that's somewhat true because the second gen will be leading anyway - making way for lessor of Yamaha's production line
