Well, when I was in the Air Force we had a few things going on in the world. Cold war, Russian bombers in the air with nuclear bombs, Strategic Air Command with B52's in the air with nuclear bombs, Russia putting ICBM's in Cuba, just a few minor problems.

We countered the threat with NORAD (North American Air Defense) Command by loading fighter/interceptors with air to air missles and some rockets that had the capability of blowing a whole wing of Russian bombers out of the sky with one rocket. You can guess what those war-heads were. Plus SAC (Strategic Air Command) had the B52's in the air 24-7 to offset the threat of Russian bombers.

It was a serious responsibility then and I'm proud to have been a part of it. Nope, I wasn't on a front line, never fired a weapon at an enemy, but certainly had plenty to do and it was serious business. There was nothing humorous about it at that time and I fail to see the humor now with all that's going on. Too many young people dieing, and too many people not caring. And I didn't even play golf back then.

I'm done. If I'm wrong to feel this way, so be it. To each his own.:2cents:

I particularly admire those who adjust their speedo's 3 hundred feet below sea level, and wear funny little squiggles above their shirt pocket.

What do submariners call surface ships?

During Desert Storm our Chief at the time had a cartoon someone had sent him posted above his desk showing a soldier in a fox hole reading a letter from home saying how proud everyone was of the Air Force, Marines, and Army and when he said Navy everyone in the fox hole said "NAVY" begrudgingly. The next frame showed sailors drinking coffee and one saying “hey Chief it's a little cold in here can you turn down the AC”?

I especially liked Marines #5

Hey Gary. Whats your point???:duck::duck::duck::whistling:

Point is as refered to in a previous post, I have a clue about this.

This joke has been around for ages, there are multitudes of others that favor one service at the expense of another.

Everyone that serves in any capacity had a job to do, some liked that job, many did not. All gave some, Some gave all.

As impied by some posts, the light hearted joking about military service may have become one more of those, off limit, Politically Correct subjects.

Im am not saying that Military Service is a joke by any stretch of the imagination, so don't even go there.

All of us that served in the Military have heard the "joking" from one branch of service to the other. I was in the Marines and was stationed on a Army base (Fort Gordon) in Georgia and later on a Navy base (Great Lakes) in Chicago and took plenty of ribbing but it was all in fun. This post was nothing but an example of a Marine poking fun at the other branches of service like we all did and I fail to see where any disrespect was directed to anyone. And if you were in the service you can't tell me you didn't get your shots in at another branch of service. :stickpoke: Now no Marine would want to take a beach without the Navy soften up the beaches with fire from ships and Navy planes. Navy Seals and Sea bee's were right up front with everyone else. No Army or Marine solider would of wanted to head into Iraq without the Air force taking out 70% of Iraq's defenses before a solider moved in. I've seen Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines fighting at the same place at the same time and we need to be proud of all our service men and women. But lighten up and take the ribbing for how it was intended, friendly inter-service fooling around. Personally you couldn't get me up in one of those bombers with all the fancy land to air missiles out there. And forget about being on a ship, having my home sunk in the middle of the Ocean is not my cup of tea. I'll stick to the half shelter and good ole solid Mother Earth.

Thanks again to all that have served, to all those who are serving, and to all those who supports them. :2cents:

:sign chill out:At ease gentlemen! All I can say is I was glad to see those F4's coming out of DaNang (AF), glad to hear the 16's from off shore (Navy) and the jarheads were good to have around (MC). All helped save my butt a few times. (FB Linda, 196th Inf. VN):245:

As a moderator I usually stay out of these threads that start to become personal affronts to some member. However, I will say this on this one.

For all the good natured banter that goes on between the respective branches of service, as an Army MedEvac pilot in 'nam, I never had one Marine complain about my being diverted to a Marine fire fight to pick up the wounded under a canopy of Air Force or Navy pilots delivering a load of napalm. My only concern wwas that their aim was as good as they claimed...

Now, if this can simply die a natural death it would be great....

I served 28 years in the Air Force...proud years...and I think the joke was funny...we all (people, in general) have a tendency to take ourselves too seriously. No reasonable person makes fun of the military...fact is, some things are just funny and should be taken in that light. Yes, the services poke jabs at each other, but the bottom line is that those who serve, do so as a part of the whole. We fight among ourselves, but when the chips are down...all pull together to get the job done.

Take it easy...you will live longer (and happier). This is a great site, and you all are great people...let's continue working together to keep it that way.
