Chiro Posted January 19, 2011 #1 Posted January 19, 2011 In my last post "The future of the Venture" It appears the Venture is on the way out. Let's assume this is true. What bike or bikes would make your shortlist? I'm a little P/O at Yamaha right now so I'm sure it will not be another Yamaha for me...
Dave77459 Posted January 19, 2011 #2 Posted January 19, 2011 It will be a touring bike and it will have more than two cylinders. I like the tech in a BMW, but a Gold Wing is probably more approachable.
Ky. Rider Posted January 19, 2011 #4 Posted January 19, 2011 I'll be looking for an 06 bc Venture ---- oops, I've got one so I guess I'll just keep it.
Sylvester Posted January 19, 2011 #5 Posted January 19, 2011 Unless my 02 gets wrecked, there won't be another. I don't fit the GL, the BMW is not my style, had a Harley tour bike (didn't care for it) and the Indians are too pricey (although I love them). I probably will trike or hack in the future if they can get the reverse thing down.
PBJ Posted January 19, 2011 #6 Posted January 19, 2011 Don't hate me but my next bike will probably a Valkeryie Interstate. Green and cream Please!
Brake Pad Posted January 19, 2011 #7 Posted January 19, 2011 This one for at least another 5 or 6 years, but maybe a BMW
Flyinfool Posted January 19, 2011 #8 Posted January 19, 2011 I have a 1st gen now. There may never be a need to get another bike in this lifetime.
Guest Posted January 19, 2011 #9 Posted January 19, 2011 Ill stick with my trusty RSV. I just love the fit, style and comfort of the bike. While its not perfect in some areas its still a pretty dam good bike. Now, the decision that may be made to move on to another model/brand should be a simple one. If you decide to get rid of a bike for any reason other then you just dont like the bike or want something different then you are doing it for the wrong reasons. Most of us bought the RSV because we liked it over another brand so much we all felt it was an upgrade. So now, something better comes along and were tempted to jump ship for that bike. So ask yourselves....is the RSV really that bad? So the tech isnt there and we have the tried and true cassete player, but everything else works pretty well, right? For me, if Yamaha came out with a new RSV based on the VMAX motor I probably couldnt even afford it at this time anyway. My priorities are setting myself up for retirement as soon as possible, not taking on a huge payment, especially since I already have an RSV in excellent condition free and clear. So, go out and buy that new "other" bike if it is what you truly desire. But remember, the RSV is still a truly good bike.
Monty Posted January 19, 2011 #10 Posted January 19, 2011 I'll keep my '03 RSV for a while. It's only got 70k on it. Long ways to go.
etcswjoe Posted January 19, 2011 #12 Posted January 19, 2011 If the 2nd gens last near as long as the 1st gens have I will most likely get a newer RSV if I ever wear my 99 out.
Mel Posted January 19, 2011 #13 Posted January 19, 2011 I'm thinkin' that my '07 RSV keeps feelin' taller and more top heavy the closer I get to 74 years young, 'specially when two up. I'm looking into the "trike" kits that just add two more wheels, not the full blown trike conversion. Mostly a matter of budget, don't want to take off all those good parts (wheel/tire, saddle bags, etc.) in order to replace them with the high $ conversion. And then there is the Can Am Spyder. Maybe find a used/demo for a decent price? It would have to be a touring model, and I'd want the manual transmission. That electronic do-dad shifter just would not make me feel comfortable about reliability. If anyone here has any experience with the Can Am or know someone who does, please comment.
mraf Posted January 19, 2011 #14 Posted January 19, 2011 As the days tick by and I can't hold up this old sputnik I'll be looking for a Can Am Spyder touring myself also. They have only just begun cracking the touring market with these. So they should only get better with age unlike me.

I too am looking at a bolt on trike kit for my "99"RSV,for the same reason.I would like to talk to someone that has first hand experience with the TRIGG trike kit.Everything I read about this kit sounds good, including the price.
Rick Haywood Posted January 19, 2011 #16 Posted January 19, 2011 Well I am hoping that when it does come time for a new bike that 1 of two things happen. #1 Yamaha has a bike like the RSV because I love the bike. I like the ride and the way it sets when I am on it. #2 Harley has made a water cooled Electra Glide Classic. Other than those 2 bikes I might look at the Kawasaki. If none of this happens then I will look around for a 09/10 with low miles and just by another RSV

I'm probably riding my last bike, it has taken me about 5 years to put 65,000 miles on this bike so the chances of me putting 200,000 on this bike are slim to none. If I do happen to wear this bike out there are always bikes sitting around with low miles on them. BOO
IH Truck Guy Posted January 19, 2011 #18 Posted January 19, 2011 I have a 1st gen now. There may never be a need to get another bike in this lifetime. Jeff,I could not have said it better...:goodpost: You da man.
jemorrisonjr Posted January 19, 2011 #19 Posted January 19, 2011 Already picked up my next bike... 09 FJR1300AE What a sweet ride.........
elmicko Posted January 19, 2011 #20 Posted January 19, 2011 My RSV fits me better than any big bike I've ever ridden so I'm hoping to have it for a long time. If I ever do need to switch brands, it'll have to be a touring bike with similar looks to an RSV. I like having a bike that looks like a classic bike. Guess that means that I'll be on a Kawi Voyager or an HD Ultra Classic, but I'm really hoping I have the RSV for a REALLY long time.
CrazyHorse Posted January 19, 2011 #21 Posted January 19, 2011 Probably a Goldwing or BMW either a late model K1200lt or the new 1600 if it fits me.
RedRider Posted January 19, 2011 #22 Posted January 19, 2011 I will hang onto the Venture for riding with my wife (or grandkids when they come along and are old enough to ride pillion). However, that doesn't mean I will not expand the stable. My next bike will be (as of now) one of the following: 1) Yamaha Tenere' 2) BMW R1200GS(A) 3) Yamaha FJR1300 4) Kawasaki Concorse 14 5) Honda ST1300 (if they do some upgrading). However, nothing will come soon. Have 2 kids in college with 2 more in another year. Ouch. Hoping I will have gas money for the current bike(s). RR
SilvrT Posted January 19, 2011 #23 Posted January 19, 2011 IF ... there ever is a "next bike" for me, it's really too difficult to say for sure at this time what it will be because ... I don't see it happening for a few years and who knows what will be available at that time. On the other hand, if it were to happen tomorrow, I'd have to say it would be a Victory Cross-Country with all the extra's. I'd previously thought I'd go to a Wing but to be honest, while I do like the ride and handling, it still doesn't "look" like a conventional motorcycle to me.

steve crossley Posted January 19, 2011 #25 Posted January 19, 2011 I would have to go for an fjr 1300 to feed the need for speed handling and brakes plus that big fuel tank and i like the slick fairing ect ect a well rounded package.
