I have searched but can't find the info on wiring a USB jack to recharge my Ipod. Currently have the fairing split and would like to get it done before closing it up.

Any help is appreciated

THanks

I bought an adapter from Walmart http://www.walmart.com/ip/Griffin-PowerJolt-Redesign-Car-Charger-for-iPod-Black/10326092 that let me plug a usb port into a cigarette type charger. It charges the ipod while driving but unfortunately I have it twice fry an Ipod. I think it happened both times when I started the bike with it hooked up, but I am not sure. Needless to say I no longer charge the Ipod while driving!

You can install a cigarette lighter power port into the trunk, and then plug in a charger, OR...in the case of the fried ipod, another solution is to buy a portable rechargeable charger.

You recharge these at home, then take them with you, and they are able to recharge your ipod or iphone type device several times. Here is an example of these chargers:

I have the second one and it works fine. There are several brands and sizes....just pick one and whip out your credit card!

Here's what I have installed

http://www.burnsmoto.com/usb-power-socket-weatherproof.php

I did the glove box mod which someone posted earlier so I can now plug my iPhone into the USB jack inside the glove box and the phone will be recharged.. What works great for me in this set up is that I typically ride the main freeways and I can use the iPhone's 3G to log into my fav radio station at home and get reception.. piping it through the bike's audio system.. or the MP3s on the iPhone etc..

now I will have a fully charged iPhone when I arrive at destination at the end of the day or power up my helmet cams etc etc while traveling etc..

If you have a cig lighter socket adapter on your recharger, you can relocate the one from the lower left fairing to somewhere more accessible and use it that way.. I'm also adding another socket to the left side of the bike under the seat so that I can run a small emergency portable air pump for when we go on group rides etc..

best of luck

Dal,

I've been using the power port on the bike with the plug in/USB connector to the iPod for 2 seasons now. Never a problem, however, I don't leave it plugged in all the time. In the unlikely event the iPod runs out of power in a day's ride, I plug it in when I stop for fuel, coffee, etc. I can bring it up from dead to playable in about 10 min... 3/4 charged in ~ 20 min.

Good luck.

Thanks guys, currently the bike project is on hiatus as I am finishing the long ongoing bathroom renovation - lost interest half way thru but it's time to "get 'er done!".

Fairing is still apart and I will look into the suggestions given in few weeks when I can get it closed up. Still have a few months before riding season - we keep getting blasted with snow, ice and cold up here in NY, which is getting old.... so this has given me the incentive to finish the bathroom.

Looking forward to a ride down the Blue Ridge in mid June to see my brothers new place in Clarksville Ga. aboard the RSV. Mama's not sure if she is up to the trip - hope so, but if not this cowboy is riding solo!

Later,

Dal
