ThomWill Posted January 13, 2011 #26 Posted January 13, 2011 Well, this week I have spent a good deal of time in the garage looking out beyond the clear driveway at the icy street... and making motorcycle noises.
Freebird Posted January 13, 2011 #27 Posted January 13, 2011 (edited) I wish I could diffuse this situation but really don't know that I can. First just let me say that I'm sorry that Jerry feels the way he does. I hate to hear of any member who is unhappy here due to something that I said or did. I honestly didn't know that he was upset over this issue. When he replied to this post, I had no idea what he was talking about until somebody posted the link to that old thread. In regards to that thread, as somebody mentioned, there is always more to a story that what first appears. Now Jerry claims a couple of times that he was accused of violating the forum rules by using sarcasm. If you have gone back and read that thread, you will see that at no time did I ever accuse him of violating any rules. Sarcasm is often used to make a point, to joke, many other instances. We all use it from time to time, including me. In the days preceding that other thread, there had been a political debate deleted here. I don't know if Jerry started the thread or was just a participant in it but either way, the thread was deleted as are most political threads. Jerry made it very clear that he did not like the fact that it was deleted and that it was censorship. It was only a few days later that the Facebook thread was started and Jerry made his comment about being glad that censorship wasn't used here. Having just had the discussion about political threads and censorship, I simply commented that I sensed a little sarcasm. I did NOT demand that it stop nor did I say anything about it being against any forum rules. It was simply my way of saying, "yes Jerry, I am aware of how you feel about it". In retrospect, I probably should have let it go and not responded at all. When he again said something about not knowing that sarcasm was not allowed, I ended my participation by simply saying "no, sarcasm is not prohibited and I'm sorry I said anything". I simply did not wish to make a big deal out of what I thought was a minor issue. Jerry is not the only one here who feels that anything deleted is a form of censorship. It could be argued that it is indeed censorship. On the other hand, it could be argued that it is simply an enforcement of the rules and guidelines that are clearly spelled out for this site. Political debate, religious debate, nudity, pornography are not welcome here. That was a decision that I did not make on my own. It is something that I support and approve of but that was voted on here by the membership and approved by a vast majority of the members. I hope that this explanation sheds a little light on this matter and hopefully we can put it behind us and move on to more enjoyable topics. I have no hard feelings towards Jerry and never did have. He has a right to his opinion. He is more than welcome to remain a part of our club but if he feels strongly that he has been unfairly singled out and therefore cannot remain a member here, then that is his decision and one that we have to accept. If that is the case, then I sincerely hope that he finds a place that is administered more to his liking. I learned a long time ago that we would NEVER be able to please everybody. We try very hard though to please as many as we can. Sincerely, Don Edited January 13, 2011 by Freebird
mraf Posted January 13, 2011 #28 Posted January 13, 2011 I see trees of green, red roses too I see them bloom for me and you And I think to myself what a wonderful world. I see skies of blue and clouds of white The bright blessed day, the dark sacred night And I think to myself what a wonderful world. The colors of the rainbow so pretty in the sky Are also on the faces of people going by I see friends shaking hands saying how do you do They're really saying I love you. I hear babies crying, I watch them grow They'll learn much more than I'll never know And I think to myself what a wonderful world Yes I think to myself what a wonderful world. I know, I know my bad.
Jerry W Posted January 13, 2011 #29 Posted January 13, 2011 Freebird, I am thinking you have me mixed up with someone else on the issue of being upset because of political thread being deleted. I don't think political thread have any place on this forum and do not remember ever being upset because one was deleted. If you could give me some reference to that thread, I would appreciate it. As far at the facebook thread, I could have misunderstood your comments. Truly, it wasn't me on the politcal thread.
Freebird Posted January 13, 2011 #30 Posted January 13, 2011 No problem, i could be mistaken about what kind of thread it was. Either way, once it's deleted there is no way that I can reference it. At any rate, I honestly think this was more of a misunderstanding than anything else and am sincerely sorry that you were so upset by it. I had no idea.

Mel Posted January 13, 2011 #34 Posted January 13, 2011 Well-l-l-l, I have not commented up 'till now because the subject is really none of my business. That said, I've never been accused of being tactful or "politically correct" , nor for knowing when to stay out of someone else's business. Just learned some things in 73+ years. If I were so disenchanted with anything (forum, friendship, choice of motorcycle, spouse, etc., etc., etc.) that I no longer wanted to be associated with the offending situation, I would immediately disassocate myself from it. Would not wait for a membership to expire, just walk away --- but WOULD then proceed to kick the dog, burn my motorcycle, run away from home, go curse a LEO, and yell at my religious mentor. OR, I would get over it, put it behind me, find some way to be productive, and get on with my life. Life is short. No, I do not have a PHD.
PBJ Posted January 14, 2011 #37 Posted January 14, 2011 When so many people get together from so many differnet walks of life there is bound to be differences of opinion. In the past I've learned to avoid certain threads because my own opinions aren't always with the majority. it doesn't mean I'm wrong or they are we just have our own opinions. In the last year I have stepped back from PARTICIPATING IN THREADS LIKE I USED TO. 1.)because I realize my opinion isn't all that important and 2.) I like this forum to much to have any hard feelings toward any or its members if i can help it. I also have bought a new home started a new life and been, well busy. I miss all here. and have tried to get back as often as i can. I'll continue to drop in more often. Its a shame if posts have dropped off. This a great forum and I've met many friends here and i hope to meet more. I hope its just that we've all been busy and haven't had as much time. I miss my friends, Big Tom, BongoBob, Spanky,Rawhide,Bodner, Bull463,Harleyman and many many more. I can't wait for the coming riding season. Until then I'll try to keep my an eye on the threads. Til then.
Jerry W Posted January 14, 2011 #38 Posted January 14, 2011 Well, the threads I have made reference to are available to be read. I responded to a thread that asked why the posts had dropped off and replied as to what had happened to me. I was not attemtping to "get even" it has been stated in a pm. The question was asked and I answered. I did not respond to a thread being deleted, but I guess that is something that can not be documented. Think what you will, believe what you wish. I did not answer the question trying to stir up anything. However, I did pretty much figure how the tread would go when I answered.
Monty Posted January 14, 2011 #39 Posted January 14, 2011 So, if you're staying, then welcome back. If you're leaving, then bye bye. No need to keep beating around the bush. You're here, or you ain't. I can't stand drama.
