Condor Posted January 10, 2011 #2 Posted January 10, 2011 Looking for some ideas for different tips for the Bubs slip ons. Anyone know where to get different tips? Thanks Richie R Thought I remember someone posting about using Harley slash cuts. Also Bub sells different tips but pricy...... I've also seen some pics of the originals painted black that look pretty nice. What tip style are you looking for??
Richie R Posted January 10, 2011 Author #3 Posted January 10, 2011 Something in slash or a longer cone type.
Michael_Bishop Posted January 10, 2011 #4 Posted January 10, 2011 I have Bub slip ons. I was thinking out having the tips powder coating. I was looking at the how they are held on. Is it a screw or rivet?
Chinto Posted January 10, 2011 #5 Posted January 10, 2011 Tips are mounted with 2 pop rivets. Very easy to install.
Richie R Posted January 11, 2011 Author #6 Posted January 11, 2011 Or you can tap them and use chrome bolts. I used 1/4 by 24 size. What is a good way to get rest of the chrome off of them?
Condor Posted January 11, 2011 #7 Posted January 11, 2011 (edited) Or you can tap them and use chrome bolts. I used 1/4 by 24 size. What is a good way to get rest of the chrome off of them? I took my tips to a shop here in town that professionally polishes metals. He ground the remaining chrome off, but admitted it was a PITA and wore out an 80 grit belt. Anyway the end product was really nice. I just dropped off a set of billet air filter covers and this time he's sending them out to a chromer to have them stripped. Here's a before and after. That is not chrome, but polished aluminum. Edited January 11, 2011 by Condor
Richie R Posted January 11, 2011 Author #8 Posted January 11, 2011 Wow those look great. The one I have are pitted a little. I guess I have some work to do.
Richie R Posted January 14, 2011 Author #10 Posted January 14, 2011 (edited) Here is what I had to start with. They turned out pretty good, but that alum. they used is very soft though. 1joeranger Posted January 15, 2011 #13 Posted January 15, 2011 Not sure, I'll hunt around the garage tomorrow?!
Condor Posted January 15, 2011 #14 Posted January 15, 2011 Not sure, I'll hunt around the garage tomorrow?! If you do find them, and would like to get rid of them, I'd be interested. Thinking of having them polished out and maybe starting an exchange service. Seems like flaking Bubb tips are a huge problem.... That also goes for anyone else who might have a set taking up space in the garage.
1joeranger Posted January 15, 2011 #15 Posted January 15, 2011 You are welcome to em, if I can find em! Should know in a few hours!!

Not much of a pack rat and I guess the tips did not make the cut! Still have most of everything bike related such as original lowering links just not those bub tips. Sorry!!
