coy55boy Posted January 9, 2011 #1 Posted January 9, 2011 I just hate it when I have parts left over! So, I just finished repacking the steering head bearings and I'm putting everything back together and I find this 'extra' part. It's a rubber washer (of sorts) with such an odd configuration, you'd think it would be easy to figure where it belongs. I've gone through the manual and every other sort of resource I could find, but I still don't know where to put it. http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n163/coy55boy/83%20Venture%20Royale/rubberwasher.jpg The inside diameter of the washer is the same as the outside diameter of the ring nut pictured here. But, I can't see any purpose for it when installed that way. The only other possibility I can come up with is that it goes under the bearing cover on top of the upper bearing. If that's the case, I'd like to get confirmation before I button everything up. P.S. '83 Royale (if that makes any difference)
MiCarl Posted January 9, 2011 #2 Posted January 9, 2011 (edited) It goes around the top of the fork tube. Between the air joint and the top of the tree. #84 in the picture. It is right side up in your picture. Since you have two forks you'll need to find the other one. Edited January 9, 2011 by MiCarl
coy55boy Posted January 9, 2011 Author #3 Posted January 9, 2011 Yeesh! That's even worse! Missing parts.... Thanks
MiCarl Posted January 9, 2011 #4 Posted January 9, 2011 They like to hang up behind the top of the radiator. If it's not on the floor have a look there.
Marcarl Posted January 9, 2011 #5 Posted January 9, 2011 And that nut you have pictured there belongs on the top of the steering head bearings. it takes 2, one to lock the other.
