GOINtoHELL Posted January 8, 2011 #1 Posted January 8, 2011 Ok...stupid question...I have the V-four timing chain cover to replace the yamaha one. Question is, when I take the old cover off does fluid come out? Do I need to drain the oil first? I also have the water pump V-four cover and I know I have to drain the antifreeze but not sure about the TC cover. Thanks for any help
SilvrT Posted January 8, 2011 #2 Posted January 8, 2011 It's been a while since I removed mine but I think you'll only loose oil that has pooled there which isn't much... I think...but don't take my word for it LOL. put a 2x4 block of wood under the sidestand. others will chime in ...
KeithR Posted January 8, 2011 #3 Posted January 8, 2011 Same for me it's been awhile but I don't recall losing any oil. The water pump one is a little different I just put a pan under it and let it flow. Keith
MiCarl Posted January 8, 2011 #4 Posted January 8, 2011 Do you mean alternator cover? If so, it'll lose some oil if you do it on the side stand. If you stand it up straight you'll lose whatever oil is in the cover whether you drain the oil or not. Personally, I wouldn't stand a bike without center stand up straight without having it tied down to a work fixture. I'd drain the oil first.
KeithR Posted January 8, 2011 #5 Posted January 8, 2011 He is talking about this cover. I seeem to remember picking up a new o-ring tho. Keith
