Black Owl Posted November 12, 2007 #1 Posted November 12, 2007 Do we have any members, or member's with family serving in Irag, Afganistan, or anywhere in the Middle East this year?
Bigfoot Posted November 12, 2007 #2 Posted November 12, 2007 My daughters husband (son in law) is in Afghanistan right now with the Marines.
Gray Ghost Posted November 12, 2007 #3 Posted November 12, 2007 Two of my sons will be over there sometime just before or after Christmas. And again, thanks to all that supported Clay, Elizabeth, and me while we were overseas. You are all special.
Hagmaster Posted November 13, 2007 #4 Posted November 13, 2007 Nephew just got back from Afganistan. 82nd airborne (my riding buddy).
BigShell Posted November 13, 2007 #5 Posted November 13, 2007 Does adopted count? Not adopted in the usual sense, though. The Blue Star Families here have adopted me as their personal PGR/biker dude. They may not be blood, but I'm closer to many of them than some families are. I'm just thankful that all thats been needed from me so far is for parades, welcome homes and an occasional shoulder to lean on.
RoadKill Posted November 13, 2007 #6 Posted November 13, 2007 My Nephew Dusty is there and will be for another 15 months with the Army. Please keep him in your prayers. Though he says "Pray not for Me, but the one in the sights of my weapon"
wolfman1 Posted November 13, 2007 #7 Posted November 13, 2007 My son will be in Iraq right after Christmas. He's in the National Guard, a 1st Lt. Steve
jvbailey3 Posted November 13, 2007 #8 Posted November 13, 2007 My youngest brother is there for his second tour. He has already received the Bronze Star on his first tour. Hasn't spoken about it yet. Waiting patiently to see if he will discuss it.
Black Owl Posted November 16, 2007 Author #9 Posted November 16, 2007 Thought I had better bring this back to the top. Also, just found out we also have at least one member working in Iraq as a civilian contractor. If you folks who have family or are currently serving overseas will send me names and addresses, we can get this ball rolling. Only 40 days till Christmas..............
Black Owl Posted November 17, 2007 Author #10 Posted November 17, 2007 Gray Ghost; JVBailey3; Wolfman*1; RoadKill; Bigfoot..... If you folks can send me a PM with the name, unit, and mailing address for the service members, we will get packages together for them. And if anyone else knows of a member or family member currently serving in the Middle East, please get that information to me as soon as possible. Thanks much........

If you folks who have family or are currently serving overseas will send me names and addresses, we can get this ball rolling. Only 40 days till Christmas.............. Just wanted to chime in and say "HI". I'm that civillian contractor Black Owl was speaking of. I sent him a PM the other day, after reading one of the threads, asking who we had over here. I was thinking how nice it would be to link up with one of our fellow venturers if they were close by. Anyhoot, if there is anything I can do to help out, let me know. I'll do what I can if I have the time and the means to get it done. V/R Jim Black
Gray Ghost Posted November 17, 2007 #12 Posted November 17, 2007 I was thinking how nice it would be to link up with one of our fellow venturers if they were close by. V/R Jim Black Didn't I just miss you over there last year (only you were wearing the other suit)?
jblack1036 Posted November 18, 2007 #13 Posted November 18, 2007 Didn't I just miss you over there last year (only you were wearing the other suit)? Gray Ghost, Yep, that would be me.... I proudley served 21 years and to be honest, I miss it.....Now I'm on the outside looking in..... Jim
Gray Ghost Posted November 18, 2007 #14 Posted November 18, 2007 I know what you mean. I have two sons about to go over, one is going to the base I was at last year. Kind of wish I was going back over too. Stay safe, let me know if you need anything.
Roy Hoffman Posted November 18, 2007 #15 Posted November 18, 2007 Just a short note of thanks for all you are doing. My stepson is in Afganastan now, but just got an email from him not to send any more packages (to him) because he may not get them. Benefits of being a short timer(for the 4th tour in the sand pile). I know it makes them feel good with the support from home !!!! I will send Russell a money order toward the project, though. Happy holidays all. Roy
Black Owl Posted November 18, 2007 Author #16 Posted November 18, 2007 Roy, Let us know if things change and we will get a package to him.... And thanks for your support on this project.

Gray Ghost Posted November 22, 2007 #18 Posted November 22, 2007 I won't have an address for either of my two that are going over until after Christmas. Meant to get that info to you before, sorry about that.
Gonzo Posted November 29, 2007 #19 Posted November 29, 2007 I don't post too often but enjoy this site. I command 1-158th IN, Arizona Army National Guard. We are currently serving in Afghanistan and our tour is winding down. My Soldiers have done great things here and two have made the ultimate sacrifice: SGT Charles Browning, KIA 1 June 2007 PFC Mikel Miller, KIA 6 September 2007 They are true heroes. May they rest in peace. They will never be forgotten...
Terry Richardson Posted December 3, 2007 #20 Posted December 3, 2007 I have a nephew scheduled to be heading that way but the first of next year and one in Korea.
Guest Dan Ferguson Posted December 11, 2007 #21 Posted December 11, 2007 My daughter and son-in-law have been stationed in Germany for the past 4 years. Russ is back in Iraq for the 3rd tour and has spent one tour in Afghanistan. He's a CW3 and fly's Blackhawks. My daughter and my two grandsons are living in a village called Bann, near Ramstien AFB and close to the hospital where all the wounded are treated in Germany (I can't think of the name as I type this). I managed to go over for a visit in '04. I miss them, especially around the holidays.
Guest Dan Ferguson Posted December 12, 2007 #23 Posted December 12, 2007 Thanks Grey Ghost. I thought of the name last night, but for some reason it wouldn't come to me when I needed it. Brain fart or "old timers" desease, who knows?
