The new BMW K1600 GTL looks like my Gen 1 replacement when they start coming on the used market a couple of years from now. (I assume Yamaha will still have done nothing by then).

Anyone else started looking at them? At least on paper as there are none at the dealers till spring.

Here's a video from Leno's garage of the unveiling. The K1600 has some nice innovations, but listen to the motor when they fire it up at the end... Some may find the sound a little familiar... :)

It sounded like Grandma's Hoover vacuum cleaner... :stickinouttounge:

I'm not real happy with my prior BMW experience, but I do like what I think I see in this machine. I'd give it a 1 in 10 chance I might own one some day.

Yeah, that's why I changed brands. I wanted a new Venture, but every year was just a rehash of the year before, and the year before, and the year before...

Kinda like Harley for the last 50 years. I like the looks and performance aspect of the BMW1600 though it may not be roomy enough though. But I m very interested in it. I like the high tech they bring to the table.

I am not a big guy... my wife is a bit bigger... but the seat hight for her and the size... I don't think will work. I am not sure how a couple that may top over 200 each are going to fit on there. I am sure it is a quality machine and it seems by the video that it has all the toys the Venture may be lacking... but it seems kinda small from where I sit

Did I hear Jay right when he talked about the heated grips and seat, you can't find a motorcycle without them anymore. He needs to go to the Yammy dealer and take a look at a new RSV. The only thing that keeps me from owning the new 1600 is money. Course, that keeps me from spending winters in a warmer climate, too.

And that's exactely what Leno has that you and I don't. The cost of that bike is just chump change to him. Buying an RSV would really be slumming..... :rotfl:

I expect they will have some at the motorcycle show in Chicago in february. Look for me and others from Peoria at the STAR display when I am not drooling over the Bimmer! (Beemer? I can't ever keep that straight). :confused07:

Brother filled out the pre order form and sent it in. He had one before he totaled it out by hitting a deer.

Bob,

Had to of been a different model. The K1600's won't even be imported until late spring.....

They look pretty slick, and since the K1600 GTL is replacing the K1200LT I would suspect it to be a pretty decent tourer....

My 1200LT has much more room on it than my 86 Venture had. So unless the 1600 is smaller you'll find it very comfortable.

I always like BMW Bikes until I looked down and seen "Pegs", I hope they start putting floorboards on Touring Bikes someday (Have not seen Picture yet).

Also stated above maybe you can compare rider space to a 1st Gen but then 2nd Gen has more room then 1st gen for Passengers.

Hmmmm. Foot pegs or Cassette Deck? LOL

Just saw my first K1600 this morning at a local eatery when I did a breakfast stop.

It looks good upon inspection. I talked to the rider a few minutes. he likes it alot. Says its a comfortable bike to ride and no problems so far. I didn't ask how many miles he had on it.

The rider was a size x-large guy. no passenger. But its not a small bike. Not as big as a 2nd Gen Venture though
