Grisolm1 Posted December 28, 2010 #1 Posted December 28, 2010 The new BMW K1600 GTL looks like my Gen 1 replacement when they start coming on the used market a couple of years from now. (I assume Yamaha will still have done nothing by then). Anyone else started looking at them? At least on paper as there are none at the dealers till spring.
Snaggletooth Posted December 28, 2010 #2 Posted December 28, 2010 YES! Been checking them out for a while. I've had time to learn how to control the drooling now. Mike
Mariner Fan Posted December 29, 2010 #4 Posted December 29, 2010 I looked at the ad and the website. Pretty nice!!
Grisolm1 Posted December 29, 2010 Author #5 Posted December 29, 2010 Canadian prices were released at 22-28k depending on model and options. Expect US to be close.
Little Bob Posted December 29, 2010 #6 Posted December 29, 2010 Brother filled out the pre order form and sent it in. He had one before he totaled it out by hitting a deer.
Condor Posted December 29, 2010 #7 Posted December 29, 2010 Here's a video from Leno's garage of the unveiling. The K1600 has some nice innovations, but listen to the motor when they fire it up at the end... Some may find the sound a little familiar... BMW K1600
mini-muffin Posted December 29, 2010 #8 Posted December 29, 2010 Doesn't look like it comes with a cassette deck.:crackup:Nice looking bike, I'd like to see one in person. Margaret
RandyR Posted December 29, 2010 #9 Posted December 29, 2010 It sounded like Grandma's Hoover vacuum cleaner... I'm not real happy with my prior BMW experience, but I do like what I think I see in this machine. I'd give it a 1 in 10 chance I might own one some day.
eazyduzzit Posted December 29, 2010 #10 Posted December 29, 2010 (I assume Yamaha will still have done nothing by then). Yeah, that's why I changed brands. I wanted a new Venture, but every year was just a rehash of the year before, and the year before, and the year before...
CrazyHorse Posted December 29, 2010 #11 Posted December 29, 2010 Yeah, that's why I changed brands. I wanted a new Venture, but every year was just a rehash of the year before, and the year before, and the year before... Kinda like Harley for the last 50 years. I like the looks and performance aspect of the BMW1600 though it may not be roomy enough though. But I m very interested in it. I like the high tech they bring to the table.
kevin-vic-b.c. Posted December 29, 2010 #12 Posted December 29, 2010 I like the looks and performance aspect of the BMW1600 though it may not be roomy enough though. I like the high tech they bring to the table. ...... ........ ......... I am not a big guy... my wife is a bit bigger... but the seat hight for her and the size... I don't think will work. I am not sure how a couple that may top over 200 each are going to fit on there. I am sure it is a quality machine and it seems by the video that it has all the toys the Venture may be lacking... but it seems kinda small from where I sit
GlennTuc Posted December 29, 2010 #13 Posted December 29, 2010 Did I hear Jay right when he talked about the heated grips and seat, you can't find a motorcycle without them anymore. He needs to go to the Yammy dealer and take a look at a new RSV. The only thing that keeps me from owning the new 1600 is money. Course, that keeps me from spending winters in a warmer climate, too. Glenn
Condor Posted December 29, 2010 #14 Posted December 29, 2010 The only thing that keeps me from owning the new 1600 is money. Glenn And that's exactely what Leno has that you and I don't. The cost of that bike is just chump change to him. Buying an RSV would really be slumming.....
dynodon Posted December 29, 2010 #15 Posted December 29, 2010 I expect they will have some at the motorcycle show in Chicago in february. Look for me and others from Peoria at the STAR display when I am not drooling over the Bimmer! (Beemer? I can't ever keep that straight).
OldBear Posted December 29, 2010 #16 Posted December 29, 2010 Brother filled out the pre order form and sent it in. He had one before he totaled it out by hitting a deer. Bob, Had to of been a different model. The K1600's won't even be imported until late spring..... They look pretty slick, and since the K1600 GTL is replacing the K1200LT I would suspect it to be a pretty decent tourer....
Iowa Guy Posted December 30, 2010 #17 Posted December 30, 2010 Hey, with a new model coming out that will just make those "old" 2010 and earlier beemers real cheap right?
Sheradan Posted December 30, 2010 #18 Posted December 30, 2010 I like the looks and performance aspect of the BMW1600 though it may not be roomy enough though. I am sure it is a quality machine and it seems by the video that it has all the toys the Venture may be lacking... but it seems kinda small from where I sit My 1200LT has much more room on it than my 86 Venture had. So unless the 1600 is smaller you'll find it very comfortable.
frogmaster Posted December 30, 2010 #19 Posted December 30, 2010 (edited) I always like BMW Bikes until I looked down and seen "Pegs", I hope they start putting floorboards on Touring Bikes someday (Have not seen Picture yet). Also stated above maybe you can compare rider space to a 1st Gen but then 2nd Gen has more room then 1st gen for Passengers. Hmmmm. Foot pegs or Cassette Deck? LOL Edited December 30, 2010 by frogmaster added joke
RandyR Posted September 25, 2011 #20 Posted September 25, 2011 Just saw my first K1600 this morning at a local eatery when I did a breakfast stop. It looks good upon inspection. I talked to the rider a few minutes. he likes it alot. Says its a comfortable bike to ride and no problems so far. I didn't ask how many miles he had on it. The rider was a size x-large guy. no passenger. But its not a small bike. Not as big as a 2nd Gen Venture though
