Why only Road Kings Exhaust?

Just curious, why are only Road King mentioned as an alternative exhaust as all HD (touring) use the same size pipes.

 

Just wondering as there are countless alternatives for the HD folks to buy, (Rush, Rinehart, Cobra, Sampson, Chrome Works, Barron's, Screaming Eagle... you get the idea)

 

Why wouldn't they fit the RSTD?

I think the main reason is that the stock RK exhaust can be had for free or very little. You can get the others for a RSV but they run Big Bucks.

From my perspective there's 2 reason's...

 

Firstly, they're cheap

Secondly, most are "slash-cut" at the same angle as the side bags.

there's a lot that will fit - just gotta watch out for the catalytic converter

On mine I was given his Road Glide pipes and they worked great.

I put on a pair of Vance and Hinze "slip ons" one time and they were fantastic. Great sound but not window rattlers. Something about the sound of them skeered the heck out of dogs too. Car chasing dogs would start to come out and then run the other way. Strange:think: Takes about 30 minutes total to put a pair on a venture, perfect match ups. They ain't really cheap but you may find some used ones around.

How do you knock out the caltalitic converter and why? Does it cause a perfomance problem or primarily just for sound?

Catalytic converters will cause back pressure in the exhaust. Not good unless your bike is designed for it.

They work just fine on the RSTD's , there are several tips on mounting them on this site.
