Well you knew it was coming. The only battery talked about anymore, Lithium ion (hybrid car's, cell phones, etc.) has come to motorcycle's. For those who spend more on batteries this might be your answer. SHORAI brand Lithium ion motorcycle battery. Spec's, has two to four times service life of regular batt., hold's charge for one year without maintenance, and weight's about 1.5 pounds vs about 9.5 pound's regular batt. Interestingly it comes in military spec carbon fiber case. Cost about $130.00 If you don't like the battery you may like the ladies on the sight.SHORAI.com

Don, I got that price from a motorcycle news letter I get. Checked your info and what they quoted was average price. The Venture as we know takes one of the largest size batt. As you stated our batt. list for $186.00 spec's @ 270cca, 18a/h, 2.1lb's. If you select a smaller batt. about half our spec's (130cca, 14a/h) they list for $109.00) I agree that $186.00 is a bit to much. Hopefully the price will come down over time.

If money was not a primary concern, it looks like 2 of the smaller case size batteries would fit in place of one standard Venture battery.

Lithium iron LFX14L2-BS12, size 2.28" x 3.50" x 4.45", 14 AH and 210 CCA.

Standard size Deka EXT-18Lis 3.56" x 6.38" x 8.13", 18AH and 330 CCA.

Wire two of the smaller lithium-iron batteries in parallel, it would double the AH and CCA ratings.

You could get 28 AH and 420 CCA.

About $300 worth of batteries though.

:mo money:

Hey Bob,

The Odessey battery is an AGM (Absorption Glass Mat) battery, the same as the DEKA.

The lithium-iron battries are non fluid filled. They are a solid that releases a gas that creates the electric field as apposed to a fluid transfering the electric field.

Very interesting, but I hate those anode posts. Unless you're very carefull, with the bike on the side stand, that dang nut will fall out and disappear somewhere in the innerds of the bike. I've already lost two when I installed the DEKA. And at $186 I'll wait a bit until the price gets competitive.... :mo money:
