Take the LEFT grommet and put it in your RIGHT hand and stand in front of a mirror. Take careful note of which direction the left edge of the grommet is pointing and.... DON'T INSTALL IT THAT WAY!! massey130 Posted December 22, 2010 Author Share #9 Posted December 22, 2010 let me take an educated guess and see what you all think. the fat part goes to the inside so it will cushion the tank as we tighten down the bolt with the big non chromed washer that secures the tank to the frame. tomorrow should be nice here in louisiana and i may be able to get the thing on and go for a ride. Freebird Posted December 22, 2010 Share #19 Posted December 22, 2010 Sorry, but as usual I'm out of town and I would have to drive a pretty good ways to take a look. I will be home later today though and if you don't figure it out before then, I will gladly pull my gas tank and take a look. I've never removed the grommets so really haven't paid any attention to them.
Mel Posted December 22, 2010 Share #20 Posted December 22, 2010 Try it with 'em one way, if'n it don't look right, or feel right, or fit right, SWITCH 'EM! Sorry, mine is covered, tank is full and sea-foamed, battery tender is attached, and we have 7 or 8 inches of snow on the ground. Isn't it amazing how the little problems can cause such huge delays in a project. Uhh, now where is the "enter" key?

Merry Christmas, please go for ride now. Ok everyone, we have a winner. the fat/larger side of the grommet goes to the inside. I will hopefully take care of this tonight. I appreciate everyone chiming in and those who provided mental support. I just may get a ride in this evening if all goes well. let's close this thread and move on.
