eazyduzzit Posted December 31, 2010 #26 Posted December 31, 2010 Don't let her run over you. I don't know you, but I went through a divorce and I know how you can be taken advantage of when you're hurting and just want to get it over with. Mine was 20 years ago, and like the others said, I have moved on and remarried. I wish the best for you.
Guest scarylarry Posted December 31, 2010 #27 Posted December 31, 2010 Get a lawyer and sign nothing........... Her lawyer has her interest at heart not ya'lls You are a common wealth state and the laws are somewhat different in common wealth.. For God's sake don't make any threats of any kind towards her or any family.. Also since you are a common wealth cancelled any joint cards you have... Don't ask how I know all this :whistling:
Wolf Posted January 1, 2011 Author #28 Posted January 1, 2011 All cards have been cancelled. The sheriff told me that if she tries to get a restraining order, he will be back me up because she is a city police officer, and at that point he will file reverse charges. I have had enough as of today, and I have removed everything that has my name attached to it. Her lawyer has threatened to have me arrested for theft, but again, the sheriff has all of the details and has vowed to refuse to serve a warrant. He said it is a civil matter the second it leaves the property. And it is now gone. Nice guys do seem to finish last, and I refuse to be run over. Because she has had all my mail return to sender, changed the locks before eviction, she has broken the law and the sheriff will file the report as soon as I ask. The local police have been very helpful. No, we are not married, but all of the money was used jointly, as were the bills. Her lawyer wanted me to leave everything in the house until after the eviction before we split anything. Obviously, that did not sit well. As for threats against her or her family.... no matter how upsetting this is, I would never stoop to such a level. There is no situation that would make me even want to do that, hell, not even to the level she is trying to play at now. We have 0 contact. For a police officer that cannot face internal conflict, there is not much hope for a career in law enforcement. I really appreciate the support all of you have given me. That being said, there are 2 sides to every coin, but I am being as straight forward as I can. I am angry, but that does not diminish my feelings for her. Thank you all. Rob
saddlebum Posted January 1, 2011 #29 Posted January 1, 2011 I hear a lot of people brow beating themselves over mistakes they feel they made which caused a separation, when in actual fact they may not have made any. Let me just say that although this may be true in some cases, it is not always. Sometimes partners have each grown up to the beat of a different drum. Often this results in one laying down the ground rules based on the way they were raised, and firmly believes there is no other way, while the other is expected to bend to them despite the fact that they were raised by a different set of rules and customs. This does not make either one wrong, although one is made to feel as though they are. For a relationship to work both need to accept and understand each others differences, and simply agree to disagree, as well as be willing to come up with a compromise that both can live with. Sometimes one has to back off and let the other have their way, but sometimes it has to be the other way around. But you cannot have one always rule while the other is driven to walking on egg shells. Scarylarry , with regards to you daughter, I have been there. After my daughter literaly hating me for 3-4 years she slowly started to come around. This year for Christmas she hugged me and told me she loved me and things are almost back to normal. Your Daughter is only seveteen. Be patient, understanding and mostly give her time. Eventually she will come around. You may have to swallow a lot of pride, but always remain in the shadows, swallow any harsh words or retalitory words that tend to surface. Be ready to be there for her for when she needs you, and she will. She may get into her twentys before it happens, but it will.
