Freebird Posted January 5, 2011 Author #51 Posted January 5, 2011 I think it would be great to jam a little one night at Maintenance Day. Somebody will have to lead it as I'm strictly a beginner and will just play along with the others. I hope that any of you who play, will think about bringing your guitars, dulcimers, banjos, whatever. I usually have about 3 guitars around so if you can't bring your own, you are welcome to use one of mine.
99silver Posted January 6, 2011 #52 Posted January 6, 2011 OLD: Waltzing Matilda NEW: I Still Call Australia Home Tenterfield Saddler [both by Peter Allen?] I saw Rick Price do Tenderfeild Saddler at a show in Ann Arbor,MI he was following along with another Aussie named Tommy Emmanuel. What a GREAT show, I sat about seven rows from stage.
Aussie Annie Posted January 7, 2011 #53 Posted January 7, 2011 Tommy Emmanuel is the most un-believable guitar player...he can make that thing sing He is currently doing concerts here with his brother, who is also an amazing player. Tommy has been using the same "favourite" guitar for years.

Freebird Posted January 11, 2011 Author #56 Posted January 11, 2011 Folks, I'm figuring out that this GAS (guitar acquisition syndrome) is a real problem. I'm finding myself searching Craigslist in every new city that I happen to be in. I bought the Washburn last week in Dayton, OH. It's a really nice guitar but just doesn't quite do it for me. So, I now have it for sale on Craigslist. Then I got to Indianapolis today and ran across another guitar that I really do like. It's NOT a high end guitar but WOW....it plays fantastic and I love the style. It's basically a hollow body in a Telecaster style. I've been playing it all evening here in my hotel room and this one is a keeper. Not that I wouldn't possibly add another one at some point....not soon...I don't think.
RandyR Posted January 11, 2011 #57 Posted January 11, 2011 I think we'll have to learn Waltzing Matilda. Gas = putting a new room on your house to store guitars in.....
Aussie Annie Posted January 12, 2011 #58 Posted January 12, 2011 Okay, have been looking around locally for one that will fit in the suitcase Found a great shop in Fremantle, so.................. how about a 'didge to join in the jam session?? We are hoping to bring a didgeridoo to MD so pucker up
RandyR Posted January 12, 2011 #59 Posted January 12, 2011 Is Jonah bringing a case of Black Death with him this time:happy-emoticon:? It should help the music....
Aussie Annie Posted January 13, 2011 #60 Posted January 13, 2011 What, no taker's on the didgeridoo?? Thought there would be lots of hot air we could blow at MD :stickpoke:
RandyR Posted January 13, 2011 #61 Posted January 13, 2011 What, no taker's on the didgeridoo?? Thought there would be lots of hot air we could blow at MD :stickpoke: I thought you were offering to play it?
Freebird Posted January 13, 2011 Author #62 Posted January 13, 2011 Pretty cool but can you dance to it?
Aussie Annie Posted January 14, 2011 #63 Posted January 14, 2011 Local natives have been for thousands of years!!
Freebird Posted February 11, 2011 Author #64 Posted February 11, 2011 Well my guitar trading continues. I may find exactly what I'm looking for sooner or later. I sold the Washburn electric a while back. I sold the Cort electric this week. I am now going to try a Taylor Solidbody Standard electric. I know all about Taylor guitars but not a lot about their electrics. I found a great deal on a used one so I can get my money out of it also if I decide I don't like it. It is being shipped to me so now I have to play the waiting game.
ddoggma Posted February 11, 2011 #65 Posted February 11, 2011 Thats a sweet axe. Purdy too. Say you can swap out pickups, cause they plug in or something? http://www.taylorguitars.com/guitars/electric/Models/SolidBody/
Freebird Posted February 11, 2011 Author #66 Posted February 11, 2011 Actually it's only the cheaper "classic" that has the pickguard loaded pickups that you can easily swap out. This is the "standard" and has no pickguard. Seems a bit strange that the CHEAPER model has that feature but I like the finishes and etc. on this one much better.
Dexx Posted March 15, 2011 #67 Posted March 15, 2011 I'm guessing that the pickups mounted in the pick guard makes it cheaper because it requires less work and and the cavity routing would not have to be as precise. You should get better tonal quality and sustain from the configuration that you chose. But that's not why i stopped by Is there anybody in the Myrtle Beach area that can suggest a good music instrument store. I have found Andy Owings and Star Music and everybody has been helpful and nice, but everything is so new. I'm looking fro one of those places where you might find a hidden gem piled under stuff in a corner. I've been here since september and I'm really missing Buzzo's in Geneseo, NY.
Freebird Posted March 15, 2011 Author #68 Posted March 15, 2011 Yes. Actually, they are not pickguard mounted like on the Classic but they are easy to change out. Not as versatile but easy to do. No soldering. They use a Molex connection so just plug in. The top is routed and etc. as on other electrics. Great sustain and fantastic necks though. I am really enjoying this one.
Trader Posted March 29, 2011 #69 Posted March 29, 2011 Not sure if anyone has mentioned this before but I found a fantastic site for guitar lessons. www.guitartricks.com Don't let the name scare you...It takes you from "this is a fret and this is how to hold your pick", to basic scales and music reading up to the most complicated riffs and songs you can imagine. There are over 3000 video lessons, which include printable sheet music and tabs. You can select lessons by difficulty and style (country, rock, classic etc) I think it's $14.95 a month or $129 for a year. I have no affilitation with this site...but I would recommend it to anyone trying to learn or improve their playing. I know I'm enjoying it a lot!
Freebird Posted March 29, 2011 Author #70 Posted March 29, 2011 Another great site is http://www.justinguitar.com A lot of great lessons from basic to advanced and donation based.
SilvrT Posted March 29, 2011 #71 Posted March 29, 2011 Another great site is http://www.justinguitar.com A lot of great lessons from basic to advanced and donation based. I've used his and this one http://www.totallyguitars.com/ .... but it ain't their fault I ain't a RockStar!
BEER30 Posted March 31, 2011 #72 Posted March 31, 2011 I sure FreeBird has plenty of extension cords to plug my amp in? So far I started a one man band called "Tactical Tunes", it's the next best thing to waterboarding ! :whistling: BEER30
Freebird Posted March 31, 2011 Author #73 Posted March 31, 2011 Yep, we will sure get you plugged in. If it gets too bad....we can unplug you too.
