As mentioned before I already have an electronic relay flasher unit someone sent me when my OEM one died, so I believe I'd be all set up for it..

 

The insanely bright tail light works great on the bike.. Love it.. =)

With an '06, you should have the three pin bulbs in the front. (Aside for lurkers - I believe that the front signal bulbs changed in '05, but I'm not absolutely certain.) I also don't know where your bike originated, or what differences there may be between bikes made for other places. The safest course would be to check prior to ordering.

 

GEN200-A-BAZE2-T is the three pin amber. This is what I ordered for the fronts.

 

I looked up my digital receipt and found that I ordered the GEN200-A-7507-T for the rear. I ordered the GEN200-A-1156-T for my sister's '97 Royal Star. Both have two pins, but the 7507s are aligned differently. I'd suggest checking them too. If they're straight across from each other it's the 1156. If they're not, it's 7507. (Now I'm going to have to go out and look at the ones in mine to see what's going on. Maturity just isn't all it's cracked up to be.)

 

I'd also like to point out that the backing plates do not always fit. I've done two bikes and on both I had to file two of the plates. It's only a few thousands, so a couple of swipes around the outside with a coarse rasp will massage them to fit perfectly. I didn't mind, since I'd rather they were snug than loose.

If you are trying to get the most light on, you might consider putting red led's in the back. This along with a run-turn-brake controller will run the blinker led's all the time as running lights. I think you may already have clear lenses so only need to change lamps. If you are looking for a RTB controller, my suggestion is Kuryakyn #4613 which is a plug and play RTB for the RSV. Works great and really increases rear visability. Good luck with what ever you choose.

But does it (Kuryakyn #4613) just plug and play on a 2008 RSTD ?????? ((I really don't like the idea of cutting wires if I was to use the #4710.)) Has anyone used that model (4613) on a RSTD ?????

When you refer to the "three pins" do you mean the little lugs sticking out of the sides of the socket that engages into the plug sides?

There are pins and contacts. The three pins are the little alignment pins sticking out from the sides of the base that fit into slots in the socket.

Both bikes, being '06s from the USA should have the same sockets. Prior to '05 1156 and 1157 would have been correct. My sister's '97 Royal Star Tour Classic uses 1156 and 1157 bulbs. My '06 definitely has the BAZE fronts. The Receipt says I got the 7507s for the rear. I thought they were 1156, which is why I'm going to check. (Probably tomorrow - new job, 12 hour days, winter, day off, etc.) Gotta get this figured out for future reference. Based upon the page listed above I'm pretty sure it's going to be BAZ and 7507, I just want to be sure.

Thanks again, I recall trying to use a bulb off a 2005 VStar and it wouldn't work on the 2006 RSV.. could it be just that reason?

 

I'll pull the bulb off the bike and compare it to the chart you provided..

I'm not positive on the RSTD. If the connection plug is the same as the RSV, it should work. Kuryakyn doesn't show the 4613 working for the RSV. It shows working for the 1600 Roadie which has the same wiring / tail lights as the RSV and I think it is the same as the RSTD. This will work and is what is on my RSV. My suggestion is to ride to your local dealer, pop the seat and get the dealer to let you try one. I actually took a picture of my plug first, showed it to my local shop, and they let me try it. They had just hard wired one in a couple of weeks earlier, so were happy to find a plug / play solution. Good luck either way.

If you need to put in a resister pack to get the turn signals to blink normally or to turn off any bad bulb display, then you have just defeated the purpose of saving power by using LEDs. The resister pack will draw enough current (and turn it to heat) to fool the turn indicator into thinking it has normal filament light bulbs

 

 

very true on the turn signal end but if u save at least some power on the running lights

My light is a Whelen "striplite" and it is the brightest I've found. A4pumper also installed one. I'm considering adding a second one stacked under the first to double the size. Here's a photo.

these are available WITH turn signals also and they are also really bright
