gunkylump Posted December 8, 2010 #1 Posted December 8, 2010 What do I need to hook up xm radio to my Zumo 550? gunk:shock3:
Freebird Posted December 9, 2010 #2 Posted December 9, 2010 I replied once and then deleted it because I misread your post. You will need the XM radio antenna/receiver. It plugs into the Zumo 550.
Freebird Posted December 9, 2010 #3 Posted December 9, 2010 Here is what you need. They are certainly NOT cheap. http://www.pcnation.com/web/details.asp?item=6G0645 Search for GXM30 at EbayMotors.com and you'll find some a bit cheaper.
gunkylump Posted December 9, 2010 Author #4 Posted December 9, 2010 Once I have the antennae hook up.....can I use any satellite company....ie Sirius.ca? They have it on sale right now for 7.49 a month for the first six months....I'm pretty green on this one Don...... gunk:scratchchin:
Freebird Posted December 9, 2010 #5 Posted December 9, 2010 No, though they are now the same company, they are still operating separately. You will have to go through XM.
gunkylump Posted December 9, 2010 Author #6 Posted December 9, 2010 How much a month is the music only Don? I take it you have this? gunk:shock3:
Freebird Posted December 9, 2010 #7 Posted December 9, 2010 They have a "mostly music" plan that is $9.99 per month. I have the "XM Everything" which is $12.95 per month. You can see their various plans here. http://www.xmradio.com/whatisxm/plans-pricing.xmc I have XM on the bike because of the Zumo. I have Sirius in my wife's car and in the house primarily because my wife's car came with the Sirius built in. I really don't have a preference of one over the other.
gunkylump Posted December 9, 2010 Author #8 Posted December 9, 2010 Thanks very much Don, that helps a lot. Where did you mount the xm30?
Freebird Posted December 9, 2010 #9 Posted December 9, 2010 They have changed it a bit but I used the Tech Mounts XM/Sirius Antenna Bracket available here: http://www.cyclegadgets.com/Products/orderbysku.asp Mine is round but I do see it listed any longer. It sandwiches between the cradle and the Ram Mount.
Gary N. Posted December 9, 2010 #10 Posted December 9, 2010 Randy, You might want to check this site out. http://www.xmradio.ca/
gunkylump Posted December 9, 2010 Author #11 Posted December 9, 2010 Ok, that gives me a great start! We purchased adapters late this fall so that we can use ear buds instead of the speakers we have with our headsets we purchased from Sierra. Looks to me like an either-or set up, but neither Beth nor I were happy with the sound quality....she being buffeted on the back seat due to the Chrome Shield lower windshield, and my hearing which suffers due to toiling in heavy industry(mining) all my life. So, we're going to drop the speaker set up, which is much too warm in the heat of the summer anyway, use the ear buds, and probably add the xm....should be much better, we hope! Not too sure of what else to do. We currently use the J+M elites.... And so, the saga continues to grow.....once again, thanks for all the tips, I'm pretty sure we'll be putting them to very good use. gunk:Laugh:
