I have a friend that has only lived in PA for a little over a year. He likes to tell stories sometimes.

This past weekend he told me that in PA if you get a flat tire on your car or truck, you have to call a Tow Truck. He says that you are not allowed to change your own tire alongside the road.

Then he tells me that you aren't allowed to wash your car at your own house. He said he got a ticket for washing his car in his driveway before work. He said if you want your car cleaned, you have to take it to a car wash.

This all sounds ridiculous, but there ARE some strange laws out there.

So, was he telling me a story?

I have lived in Pa for 58 yrs, in my neck of the woods you can change your own flat anywhere you want as long as you are not createing a safety hazard. We did have car wash restrictions during extended dry spells, but we havent had any in my area for a few years. I wash my cars in the drive all summer. We do have ring bologna and swiss cheese, great pretzels, great bike roads, great hunting, couple big lakes some nice little towns. Craig

I can remember a time before the Interstate System was expanded that the major 2 and 4 lane roads used to have signs posted that stated "All Inoperative Vehicles Must Be Towed" , and actually saw a car towed in Philly with a flat tire. This was back in the late 60's and early 30's. As Craig mentioned. there have been a few times when the water level has dropped down so low in the area lakes that you could not wash your car in the larger cities, (like Philly) but in the area of PA. where I live, we fix our flats, wash our cars and even burn leaves and trash in a burn barrel! My brother lives in a small town 20 minutes away and EVERY automobile in that town is "Smog Exempt" because of the population. (lack of people) I would think that it has more to do with population and the condition of the Hi-way System as apposed to a blanket law for an entire state. I can remember living in North Carolina as a young lad (father's side of the family) and my uncle would pull all of his cars and tractor into the same part of a field and "pop" the drain plug on the oil pan for an oil change. You would be hard pressed to get away with that now a days, what with the EPA and all. Things have changed, that's for sure.:confused24:

Those sound like they would be local ordinances not state laws. But if they are real, I doubt they are enforced. But who knows what PA can conjure up. We came up with some pretty convoluted liquor laws, scrapple and purple eggs.

I just fried me up two slices of scrapple this morning anong with 2 fried eggs on a cast iron griddle that is so well cured the eggs don't stick. Man, I am eating good.

And I change a tire when and where I want or need to, I wash my car if and when I want to.

I have changed Many O' tire on the side of a PA road... and had hte Staties show up to make sure I was Ok... no Ticket ever Given.

Upon certain occasions, like drought - etc - we do have water restrictions in place... no watering lawn, washing cars, etc.

In certain instances, there are HOA (Home Owner Associations) that may place restrictions on doing work to a vehicle or washing of vehicles while within the confines of the HOA defined property.

...AND scrapple, don't forget about the scrapple! Haven't had that for breakfast in years!

???ring bologna??? I never heard of that; is that like a meat donut? Seriously, though, I grew up around Pittsburgh and we had the best bologna (which for whatever reason we referred to as "jumbo". We also had chipped ham, which was boiled, chopped, pressed, polish ham...sliced paper thin and then fried for sandwiches (ditto the jumbo) and the hard salami was just phenomenal. Over in Philly the warm, soft, jumbo pretzels dipped in brown spicy mustard right from the street vendor, were...........(I'm drooling on the keyboard)...............man I'm getting hungry and where I am now I can't get any of that stuff (which in hindsight is probably just as well)

:stirthepot: Wow, I'm surprised that anyone even admits to being from PA.. :duck:

We have some of the greatest topograpy changes for riding in a single state...everything from flatlands.. .to mountain ranges with river views, twisties and not to mention that the seasons do change!

We believe in open carry and that the populace should have a LTCF (License to Carry Firearms) if they have done no wrong. We honor just about every state's LTCF (or CCW permit...etc) We are a "shall" issue state, vs a "may" issue (meaning if we don't like you, or you are not a politician or aan actor or an athlete, you will never get one) state.

Sounds perfect to me!

I should mention that my first wife came from Philly, and I was stationed there in the Army for a while and lived there in the early 70's outside Philly. Loved the area especially Pa Dutch country and would return in a heartbeat if I had to.

Also like Virginia especially the Roanoke area, but would like to retire in Ky /Tenn area but will probably end up stuck in WNY till I die...

Yeah, I'm from Pennsylvania, a really long way from Pennsylvania....Aledo,Texas. And, I plan on washing one of my bikes tomorrow and if I get a flat, I'll change it where it goes flat. Carry a hand gun, shoot on my property, make all the noise I want and eat Texas bbq. Man, life is good here. Should have lots of time for a long ride tomorrow as well, no snow or rain here. Eat your hearts out.:dancefool:
