SilvrT Posted December 7, 2010 #1 Posted December 7, 2010 Firstly, thanks for all the input to my "What should we buy" thread. We looked at Ford, Dodge, and Chev (Nina wasn't too excited about Nissan or Toyota). Almost did a deal on an '07 F150 4x4 but it was just a bit beyond our budget. Then we found this 2005 Chev Silverado 1500 2x4 extended cab LS model with only 56,000 Kilometers on it .... whittled them down to 12,500 and made the deal ... hopefully will be picking it up tonight (pending financing). SilvrT Posted December 7, 2010 Author #8 Posted December 7, 2010 Looks a lot like my 04 does it have all of the electronic doodadery in it and on the wheel,,,,, neat to play with on the road... No, the stuff on the steering wheel ... I think that only comes on the LT or SS models ... but it's got enuf other electronic "doodadery" to keep me busy for a while LOL Even has dual mode climate control.... (or some fancy name like that) ... can keep Nina cooled off whilst I stay nice and snuggly.. I was surprised at the power of that 4.8 litre V8 Vortec engine... wow!
SilvrT Posted December 7, 2010 Author #9 Posted December 7, 2010 Congrats on the 'Midnight' Cheevie!! heh... yep... I picked the RIGHT color LOL .... actually, it's charcoal grey metallic (looks black in the pic) but what the heck... that's close enuf to be dubbed a "Midnight"! hmmmmmm.... think I'll dub her "Midnight Rider" ...
ragtop69gs Posted December 7, 2010 #11 Posted December 7, 2010 I hope you get 1,000,000 trouble free Km. enjoy the new ride.
Eck Posted December 8, 2010 #12 Posted December 8, 2010 (edited) Rick, I bought my 5.3 - 2000 Silverado off the line in 2000, and I now have 199k miles on it.. I am on the 3rd set of tires Replaced the battery one time about 6 years ago.. It's about ready to poop out.. I changed the oil & filter every 3k religiously... Trans fluid and filter changed twice Replaced (1) right hand front driving light bulb Replaced (1) license plate light bulb Replaced all four brake pads once (about 6 months ago).. they lasted a LONG time.. Problem issues I had on mine are: My emergency brake shoes would hang up and I never even used the emergency brake.. There is a recall on the emergency brake lock ups for standard transmission Silverado vehicles. Mine is an automatic transmission and they would not cover the recall even though my emergency brakes were hanging up and doing the exact same thing that the recall was about. Soooooooo, being that I never ever used the emergency brakes, I removed the emergency brake pads all together... That solved that problem..It's been like that now for about 5 years.. My radio went out (a known common problem) you can do a search on "silverado radio quit working" and see for yourself that it is a common problem. Drivers side and passenger side seats slide forward and backward every time I touch the brake or the gas pedal...There is a service bulletin issued for this defect.. it is NOT a recall so that means I would have to pay around $3.50 for each seat to have it repaired. Your seats may do this over time... Other then those few issues, I would buy another Silverado tomorrow. I love mine!! It has been a great truck for me...and very dependable I wish you the same luck or better with yours.. Eck Edited December 8, 2010 by Eck

Gary N. Posted December 8, 2010 #15 Posted December 8, 2010 I have an '03 Silverado, Std. cab, short box with the 4.8 as well. Great little truck. I love it. Wish it had the 5.3 for towing but I don't do that much so this will do.
Guest tx2sturgis Posted December 8, 2010 #16 Posted December 8, 2010 Does it have a cassette player? If not, it dont belong in your garage!
BradT Posted December 9, 2010 #17 Posted December 9, 2010 No, the stuff on the steering wheel Even has dual mode climate control....QUOTE] Don't need all that dodad stuff, and GM is not known for quality in electrics, but I think they have the best ride and typically are rated the best in fuel economy. Always thought that dual climate zone was a dumb idea. How could that work in a small area? But it does. Good luck with it. Brad
