1joeranger Posted November 29, 2010 #1 Posted November 29, 2010 Got a Garmin 550 off of fleabay last night for $38.59! Now I am looking for handlebar mount and a waterproof container although I think someone mentioned that they are waterproof!? Thanks All!!
donaldj2242 Posted November 29, 2010 #2 Posted November 29, 2010 Is it Garmin Zumo 550 then it is made for a motorcycle and its waterproof. If not go to http://www.ram-mount.com/ or http://www.gpscity.com/ for mounts and waterproof cases.
Wizard765 Posted November 29, 2010 #3 Posted November 29, 2010 (edited) The StreetPilot C550 according to the Garmin site is not waterproof. A baggie will take care of that in the event of rain. Ram makes mounts for that unit. http://www.ram-mount.com/SearchResults/tabid/38/searchBy/WizardResults/criteria/ignored/Default.aspx GPS City may have them a few $ less. Condor Posted November 29, 2010 #4 Posted November 29, 2010 The StreetPilot C550 according to the Garmin site is not waterproof. A baggie will take care of that in the event of rain. Ram makes mounts for that unit. http://www.ram-mount.com/SearchResults/tabid/38/searchBy/WizardResults/criteria/ignored/Default.aspx Garmin also makes a handlebar mount for the Streetpilot c550. I think the Garmin Zumo will work also. I believe they're both a 17mm ball. I picked up a garmin mount for about 6-7 bucks on Ebay. Ram's are nice mounts but for those of us that are 'thrifty' is hard to beat the Garmin.
1joeranger Posted November 30, 2010 Author #5 Posted November 30, 2010 I was looking at the aqua boxes by RAM http://www.ram-mount.com/CatalogResults/PartDetails/tabid/63/partid/082065077045066045049052057090045065081054085/Default.aspx but I think the streetpilot is a little to thick for em?!
Wizard765 Posted November 30, 2010 #6 Posted November 30, 2010 The C550 is very thick. It has a humped back on it and I doubt that it would fit in an aqua box. Evan is using a C550 and really likes it. He just removes it when it rains but I believe if you needed it on a trip while raining you could just bag it. I believe Mother has one as well. They can be wired so that you can hear the instructions through your speakers.
