Guest tx2sturgis Posted December 8, 2010 #26 Posted December 8, 2010 Call it the "Blood, Sweat, and Tears" Trailer. Seems to fit. Maybe 'BST' Trailer for short.
Herb In Texas Posted December 8, 2010 #27 Posted December 8, 2010 Thats looking real good. Im trying to get the "big picture" though. Are you looking to replicate a buck board wagon? If so your on the right track. And I must disagree with a previous post. I have seen many a buck board, chuck wagon and buggies. Most were really well crafted pieces. It was the care they got that rusticized them. Made no sence in them days to take off across the prarrie in a cobled up POS. Nor does it make any sence today for that matter. Good work so far keep us posted.
mmoffitt Posted December 9, 2010 Author #28 Posted December 9, 2010 Here's the results of today's work. I'm just about done. I still need a way to latch/lock the doors and add lights. I coated the entire thing with a couple of coats of preservative to seal/protect the wood. I took the pictures before that but it darkened the wood up nicely...I'll have to get another pic after it's light again. For those that were not seeing where I was going with this project, hopefully you can now see what I had envisioned. My thoughts were to mix history with current day. Wagons were pulled by horses and motorcycles are sometimes called an "iron horse"...mostly I just wanted it to be different from everyone else's.
Kregerdoodle Posted December 9, 2010 #29 Posted December 9, 2010 Lookin good!! Now come up with some 5 spoke wheels and paint them to look like wood..
mmoffitt Posted December 9, 2010 Author #30 Posted December 9, 2010 someone else suggested getting 5 spoke wheels...where would I find some that fit this trailer? Any ideas?
Kregerdoodle Posted December 9, 2010 #31 Posted December 9, 2010 hhhmmm maybe one of those places that builds custom golf carts ?? someone else suggested getting 5 spoke wheels...where would I find some that fit this trailer? Any ideas?
slick97spirit Posted December 9, 2010 #32 Posted December 9, 2010 Cool idea. I like the ingenuity. The thing I like the most is the top compartment. That'll be handy for the things you need from the trailer most often.
mmoffitt Posted December 9, 2010 Author #33 Posted December 9, 2010 Thanks! I thought that back of the seat looked a little bare, so I painted on it...still needs a little something on the left of the words, but I'll figure it out...
slick97spirit Posted December 9, 2010 #34 Posted December 9, 2010 You should do a search and look up the old snake oil wagons that those guys pulled around. It would be cool to paint up the sides like one of those.
dmoff1698 Posted December 11, 2010 #35 Posted December 11, 2010 Really comming together. That will get some looks for sure.
mmoffitt Posted December 11, 2010 Author #36 Posted December 11, 2010 Dad, Looks like I might be pulling it home for Christmas....I'm trying to find a hitch to put on Kerri's SUV, finish the lights, etc. She has gotten too many presents to put in the back of the SUV and we don't want to drive the truck if we don't have to...so it will be a good way to test it out without the danger of testing it on the back of the bike...If all works out, you will get to see it in a week or so! Mike :sleigh:
Squidley Posted December 11, 2010 #37 Posted December 11, 2010 Nice thinking outside the box Mike, that will be a great looking 1 of a kind piece
