saddlebum Posted November 27, 2010 #1 Posted November 27, 2010 How come when ever I try to post a picture on the forum instead of making it an attachement it comes up as a red X instead of showing the picture :think:
SilvrT Posted November 27, 2010 #2 Posted November 27, 2010 probably because it's not uploaded properly and the post can't see it because it's really still located on your hard drive. What steps are you taking to put the pic onto the post?
saddlebum Posted November 27, 2010 Author #3 Posted November 27, 2010 I just copy and paste along with the entire article. When I paste it everything looks OK then when I recheck the forum the picture is gone. I also wonder if it just shows up that way on my PC or does everyone see a red X instead of a picture

You have to insert it by using the "Attachments" toolbar.
Monty Posted November 27, 2010 #5 Posted November 27, 2010 I only see the green X. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
saddlebum Posted November 28, 2010 Author #7 Posted November 28, 2010 I only see the green X. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: That one marks buried treasure best get your shovel out .....a nice wide one :dancefool:
Freebird Posted November 28, 2010 #8 Posted November 28, 2010 You can't just copy and paste the entire article and expect the pictures to show up. You have to either save the picture to your computer and then upload it as an attachment or use the "Insert Image" icon in the menu bar (yellow square with what looks like a mountain in it) if you are posting an image "inline" that is linked from somewhere else. In my opinion, the best way is to save it to your computer and upload it as an attachment. Inserting the link to the image works find and allows you to insert the image directly into your post but you have no control over that image. If it is removed from that site at a later time, the image will turn into the red "x" again. In addition to that, some sites really HATE it when you link to their images. It means that anytime somebody views the thread hear, we are using bandwidth from their site that they are paying for.
Condor Posted November 28, 2010 #9 Posted November 28, 2010 I don't believe you can "paste" an image into here. You have to insert it by using the "Attachments" toolbar. As long as the pic exists on the web it can be copied and pasted.... Not so if it's just in your hard drive. Then you have to use the attachment managment. http://www.cast-aways.com/images/OldCodger.jpg
Freebird Posted November 28, 2010 #10 Posted November 28, 2010 That's not ALWAYS true Condor. Some websites have direct linking disabled because it does use their bandwidth. It will sometimes work but not always and really isn't a good practice because when that other website eventually removes the picture, it goes away here also. I had that problem with a couple of tech articles. The folks who submitted them had saved the photos in their photobucket accounts. They eventually deleted them from photobucket and suddenly the tech articles became useless here.

Yeah you're right, but I don't think that it will allow you to copy the pic in the first place if the protection is on?? Or if you can copy it, when you paste it nothing shows up. One thing you have to be careful of is to shy away from those pics that are copyrighted. But generally there are tons of pics that anyone can copy and paste.
