barend Posted November 22, 2010 #1 Posted November 22, 2010 I've finally retrieved my Dell Tablet XT. No data was recovered, my power supply has gone missing and I still get a message that it can't find a drive (duh!), anyways, i would like to see about getting it back up running but I've had to many "discussions" with Dell about this thing. Looking to find a 40G, 4200RPM, 1.8inch ATA hard drive. Any of you techies know a source?? Thanks
BigBear Posted November 23, 2010 #3 Posted November 23, 2010 Newegg.com is who I use for all my computer stuff...
rumboogy Posted November 23, 2010 #4 Posted November 23, 2010 I 3rd that...NEWEGG. They sometimes ship out of Memphis...I swear, sometimes it feels like I get my shipment before the order has been placed...they are THAT FAST!!
a1bummer Posted November 23, 2010 #5 Posted November 23, 2010 And I'll give that a 4th! Newegg is also great with returns. I usually check them out before I check out ebay for all my misc electronic needs. Bill
barend Posted November 23, 2010 Author #6 Posted November 23, 2010 Thanks guys! I found the original paperwork and it turns out it's a 120Gb/5400RPPM, which Dell sells for $190. I did a search on newegg and found only 2 drives for laptops of that capacity but it appears I'd have to know exactly what I need to since their chat line can't/won't give tech support or recommendations. If one of those works it might save me some money though. Thanks again!
Monty Posted November 23, 2010 #7 Posted November 23, 2010 Here ya go. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136559 They have 89 5400rpm drives. The 120gb doesn't matter. You can go bigger.
hdroyer Posted November 23, 2010 #8 Posted November 23, 2010 I found these http://www.buyaae.com/Hitachi-08K1570-40GB-Hard-Drive_p_24217.html?gdftrk=gdfV22509_a_7c828_a_7c3244_a_7c24217 http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00115AJJK/ref=dp_olp_0?ie=UTF8&redirect=true&condition=all
bongobobny Posted November 23, 2010 #9 Posted November 23, 2010 I am also very pleased with www.tigerdirect.com and have purchased several items from them...

Looking to find a 40G, 4200RPM, 1.8inch ATA hard drive. Any of you techies know a source?? Thanks[/quote Has anyone looked into digital drives? Noticed some computers going to them. No moving parts so battery life would be increased. Might be still pricy though?
barend Posted November 26, 2010 Author #11 Posted November 26, 2010 I pulled the hard drive and looked up the part number. There is a refurbished one on Ebay which expires in 23 hours. any thoughts on refurbished drives?? Guess I might need a crash course on snipping (I think you guys call it). As far as digital drives; I had the option to get one when I purchased this thing, though I like the concept it would have given me smaller capacity and a higher price.
Grisolm1 Posted November 26, 2010 #12 Posted November 26, 2010 I worked in the hard drive industry 24 years. I only buy drives from Dell or hp website. there is a reason, better quality key components vs retail market product. $10 more, I feel its worth it. you would be amazed at the mechanical technology in these things. jmho
