heatonmt Posted November 20, 2010 #1 Posted November 20, 2010 Well I guess I am going to take a beating on this bike. They have change the stater, rectifier regulator, and said they have check everything and now they say its time to start look at the wiring. This bike has left me on the side of the road 3 times with a bad battery. Now I will never trust this bike out on the road. so here I am a bike that has 1400 miles on it that is 3 months old that I do not want to ride. i at the end of the road I Gauss I will have to trade it in and hope to get something out of it. this may be it for me no more riding.
Drreb Posted November 20, 2010 #2 Posted November 20, 2010 Man that's tough..sure hope things workout for you.
BuddyRich Posted November 20, 2010 #3 Posted November 20, 2010 Its under warranty, Make them keep it till its fixed. If they can't take it to a better Yamaha dealer. Somebody else had the same problem and it wound up being the Radio Amp killing the battery by draining it all the time.
sarges46 Posted November 20, 2010 #4 Posted November 20, 2010 Man I am sorry to hear this happening for you Michael! No lemon law with bikes is there? One would think that they would just take it back and give you a new one. That would be good practises but I know the company we deal with.
Guest scarylarry Posted November 20, 2010 #5 Posted November 20, 2010 I would be on the phone yamaha before I took a beating, tell them everything that has been done and what is still doing.. I never dealt with them but I have heard of good results, but I never dealt with them so I can swear by this.. It sounds like to me that someone doesn't know what they are doing or they are not touching the bike and saying they are... On edit; how far are you from marshall, arkansas? I know of someone that lives there and might be able to help you with a dealer

I know of someone that lives there and might be able to help you with a dealer +1 Time to contact the district YAMAHA manager. They will make it right. Get it out of the dealer's hands and to another dealer as per the district manager. Time to get another set of hands to work on it. Sounds like they are guessing at the problem and not (or can't) diagnose the problem. Not right that you lose money on a new bike with a 5 year warranty.

Somebody else had the same problem and it wound up being the Radio Amp killing the battery by draining it all the time. They should be able to due current drain tests both when off and on running and compare to a good bike to prove something like radio problem or not. Could be they are having a bad case of chasing their tail, replacing 1 component(ie stator) when another component (ie rectifier) is bad and blowing new stator, then replacing rectifier and bad stator blowes it. I feel for ya. Maybe try a different dealer/mechanic. Good luck
Guest scarylarry Posted November 20, 2010 #9 Posted November 20, 2010 Do not know where Marshall is I am in northwest arkansas North of Little Rock..
davecb Posted November 20, 2010 #10 Posted November 20, 2010 Contact Yamaha. You will get results. Jump up and down on desks if you have to. DO NOT let them tell you they don't know what the problem is.......... DEMAND answers..Or a new bike..........
Kirby Posted November 20, 2010 #11 Posted November 20, 2010 Man, I hate that you're having all this trouble BUT , don't let one dealer give you a snow job!!! Like others have said , go over his head. Look in the back of your owners manual, I think, and call the number to Yamaha customer service. They will make this right!!! Just don't give up!!! I've been there , done that, with good results!! Best of luck!!
dray Posted November 20, 2010 #12 Posted November 20, 2010 sometimes best results are made in the show room when there are a lot of people i was surprised i was never thrown out of the shop here in town but it will work tell people that are looking at new bikes all about yours and the problem getting it back dealers love good pr
Midicat Posted November 20, 2010 #13 Posted November 20, 2010 Contact Yamaha. You will get results. Jump up and down on desks if you have to. DO NOT let them tell you they don't know what the problem is.......... DEMAND answers..Or a new bike.......... That's what I would be doing! You paid good, hard earned money for that ride. You respected the Yamaha name enough to buy it, they should respect your purchase enough to fix it or replace it. Jumping up and down and talking very loudly in a showroom works wonders for getting results. You need to work the phone too. Dial that number on the back of the owners manual and raise hell!
Brake Pad Posted November 20, 2010 #14 Posted November 20, 2010 I think we should have a Meet and great in their parking lot, and not invite them
midnightventure Posted November 20, 2010 #15 Posted November 20, 2010 Sounds like they are trying to figure it out like a non mechanic would. Just throw parts at it instead of diagnosing the problem.
ediddy Posted November 20, 2010 #16 Posted November 20, 2010 As a lot of people here stated, call the yamaha district manager. Yamaha has to get it corrected. My dealer told me they had a yamaha warrior that they couldn't get fixed. They would have it running good but when the customer got home it would act up again. The service manager told me yamaha called him and he told them he had done everything he knew to do so yamaha told him to put the bike back in the crate and ship it back. Yamaha gave the customer a new bike. Tell yamaha they can either get if fixed or give you a new bike. Don't sell it at a loss. If you can't find a district manager send me an email. I have the contact info for the district manager for the southeast. If you're out of his territory I'm sure he could put you in contact with the manager for your area.

Since theyre talking about replacing the wiring have them check the Molex plug going to the rectifier. Good chance thats where your problem may lie. They tend to burn up, usually the positive lead.
heatonmt Posted November 24, 2010 Author #18 Posted November 24, 2010 Well I call Yamaha. I told them about the bike and told them I was giving the dealer just one more Chance to fix this. I went into the shop today to talk to owner of the shop. When I got there he said they had found the problem (not the first time I heard that) He said there was a wire with a bad connection at the rectifier, regulator. and that the bike was charging now and would be OK. Before i lift the shop we came to a understanding that if the bike was not fixed this time that it would be replaced. I have high hopes that it i fixed.
RandyR Posted November 24, 2010 #19 Posted November 24, 2010 I hope so. These are great bikes, and seldom have the level of frustration associated with them that you have put up with.
rsstar Posted November 24, 2010 #20 Posted November 24, 2010 I know you've heard this numerus times already but calling Yamaha in California will get results. When I first got my 99 and had a horrendous gear whine, and my dealer would do nothing I called Yamaha. At first they didn't want to do anything stating that the gears WILL make noise because of their design and there was nothing that could be done. Persistance and the threat of a class action suit because many of us on the forum (the other forum) were having the same problem. Then I got a call from the District Rep in Atlanta asking me when I could bring the bike in. We arranged a date at the dealer in Hattiesburg; he showed up with 4 clutch baskets and we got the whine down to a respectable and tolerable level. The next problem I had was the radio. When I called them from Ok City they called the dealer there who removed the radio from a new Venture on the showroom floor and put it on my bike. Problem solved. Moral to the story--the squeaky wheel gets the grease. You have an iron clad 5 year warranty with virtually no limitations. They MUST fix your bike or replace it. I know this has been done in the past so keep after them. I know it's an inconvenience for you but it's also your hard earned money that paid for the bike. You deserve to have a safe, reliable motorcycle. That's what you were supposed to be buying. Good luck and stay the course !!!!
kevin-vic-b.c. Posted November 24, 2010 #21 Posted November 24, 2010 My brother has a BMW GS 1200. It kept dying, it would last about 21 days and then go electrically dead. They changed every thing including stripped the bike down and changed the wiring harness and the computer "board" after that the Bike worked fine so my brother went back to the dealer to tell him all was good except his alarm system was not working.... the head mechanic told him he had left the alarm disconnected because he felt that was the problem but the engineers out east had told him to change the computer. They reconnected the alarm.... 21 days later the bike was dead again..... new alarm. They spent more on that bike than it was worth.... they refused to give him a new bike.

I'm here and willing if you want the help, Goose
