Dragonslayer Posted November 8, 2010 Author #26 Posted November 8, 2010 I'm also thinking that maybe a brillantly engineered and tooled customized shim popper upper tool and some gentle tapping on the purchase point might jar the offending shim from it's secure resting place.
Dragonslayer Posted November 17, 2010 Author #27 Posted November 17, 2010 Finally, the valve shim replacement operation is now over and successfully completed. Thanks to RandyR who help was invaluable. Randy R YOUDAMAN After three different days attempting and overcoming the obstacles described earlier, we managed to extract the stubborn shim on cylinder 2 outside intake valve and remeasured and verified that all the rest were within spec clearences. Now to move on to other repairs planned.
RandyR Posted November 17, 2010 #28 Posted November 17, 2010 Bob sprayed the shim and bucket with some solvent, we let it sit for a half hour or so, and then the stuck shim popped out when it was pried on with an awl (punch/ice pick).
RandyR Posted November 17, 2010 #29 Posted November 17, 2010 Oh, yes, and I left Bob's house with 10 pounds of venison, some of which is in my crockpot right now as venison-barley soup which should be ready for lunch....
Dragonslayer Posted November 22, 2010 Author #30 Posted November 22, 2010 Oh, yes, and I left Bob's house with 10 pounds of venison, some of which is in my crockpot right now as venison-barley soup which should be ready for lunch.... I find that decimal point placement is not near so critical in cooking as they are in micro measurement math. Enjoy the soup.
RedRider Posted November 23, 2010 #31 Posted November 23, 2010 FYI for next time - Go to Sears and get a set of mechanics picks. They're about $10 and easily do many of the previously irritating jobs - like popping out shims. They are also invaluable when working on clutches. Glad it worked out. Did the shims last winter and am really glad it is done. RR
GeorgeS Posted November 23, 2010 #32 Posted November 23, 2010 I read thru your initial posting on this thread !!! Have you ever considered writeing a novel ?? From a mechanics perspective, that was a " Great Story " !!!! :innocent-emoticon: And its NOT Raining in Seattle this week, Its Snowing !!!!
