Seaking Posted October 29, 2010 #27 Posted October 29, 2010 I ordered a Works shock from Buckeye 2 months ago... and still waiting.. production problems.. delays.. winter soon here.. Good thing I wasn't in much of a hurry.. disappointed to say the least.. =/ At least the bike is still ride capable while waiting..
Gary N. Posted October 29, 2010 #28 Posted October 29, 2010 Really.....tell me.......are there ANY RSV owners out there who have over 25 thousand miles (40k km) on their bike who HAVEN'T replaced the rear shock?. I hate to say this because I know I'll probably go out in the garage this morning a see a puddle of oil but I have over 70,000 kms. (42,000 miles) on my '06 with the original shock. Where's a piece of wood to knock?

Freebird Posted October 29, 2010 #30 Posted October 29, 2010 Naw...probably not hard enough. You need to knock on some REAL HARD wood. Try this one.

The rear shock on 06 died this past June with approximately 40,000 miles on the clock. Naturally the shock died while we were on a trip down to AZ and back. Ours would dump the air on occasion making for a very hard ride with no air and a very bouncy ride with air. The shock was replaced under warranty.

(Search previous threads) they are similar to works with some adjustability Thanks for the tip, Wayde. I went to their site (http://www.hagon-shocks.co.uk/HagApps8.htm) but didn't see any reference to an XVZ model number anywhere...neither on their "application" chart nor their price list. When you made your purchase......did you buy direct from the UK......or from a US distributor......or...??? Was it a 'custom' order? Thanks for any info. Michael.

When you made your purchase......did you buy direct from the UK......or from a US distributor......or...??? Was it a 'custom' order? Thanks for any info. Michael. I actually "jumped my own gun"......if you'll pardon the expression......and looked for a distributor in the US. Dave Quinn seems to be the guy. I wrote to them and got this reply: (now that I know there IS a domestic distributor of this British product......I'm curious how many of you guys have actually installed the Hagon product. Anyone....anyone??) Dear Michael, Happy to help, but currently out of stock. $394 plus UPS, can get here in 3-5 weeks. 'Off-the-shelf' shocks are assembled for an average rider- there is enough adjustability in the stock shock to cover a wide range of loading. It would be useful to know your weight, and whether you carry passengers (% of time? Passenger weight?) or luggage (saddlebags? tank bag? top box? loading in each?) and what your maximum loading (passenger/luggage) is likely to be. If Hagons determine that your loading exceeds the design parameters of the shock, they can supply to special order a shock with an uprated spring. Conversely if you are very light, Hagons can for some shocks supply a lighter spring. Softer and harder springs are available as custom built units only for $464 and will take between 4 and 6 weeks to get here. Shocks are also available to special order with a remote hydraulic spring preload adjuster- $554 for a stock spec shock and $624 for an upgraded spring model. Hagon monoshocks are fully rebuildable and feature straight weight spring with adjustable spring preload (threaded manual or hydraulic remote adjuster), adjustable 15 position LINKED compression and rebound damping (one adjuster for both) and a two year unlimited mileage warranty against failure due to manufacturing defect. Bent shocks due to accident, impact, dropped bike, improper installation or owner malfunction will not be warranteed. Shocks are not returnable once they have been fitted. All adjusting tools are included with the shock. You can see representative Hagon monoshocks online at http://www.davequinnmotorcycles.com/cgi-bin/webc.cgi/HAGON_MONOSHOCKS.html Shipping and insurance will be charged at cost and will vary depending on what you order, your zip code and any fuel surcharges in effect on the day your order ships. We ship by UPS in the continental USA, by Priority Mail to AK and HI and by US Mail Express International outside of the USA. For special orders we ask for a 50% good faith deposit when Hagons accept the order, with the balance due when we ship. Please note- Special orders are not returnable unless found to be defective. If you're interested in ordering, we accept VISA & Mastercard; we need: -name as it appears on your credit card -daytime phone number -billing address for the card -ship-to address if different -card number -expiration date. Call or Fax if you are uneasy about emailing credit card details. Let me know if I can offer you any other information. Guest tx2sturgis Posted October 29, 2010 #37 Posted October 29, 2010 (edited) On the website they mention that shocks need to be sent to the UK for rebuilding...ouch. Here is the quote from the website: Monoshocks are fully re-buildable by Hagons in the UK and are covered by a 2 year unlimited mileage guarantee. Tools and instructions for adjusting damping and spring reload are included. I wonder who pays for shipping to the UK and back? I suppose at that price, which is equivalent to a replacement OEM shock, an owner should simply order another, NEW one, when the old one needs to be rebuilt. When the new one arrives, install it, and send them the old one. And wait a month or two, but also, be able to keep riding. Leaving my bike on a lift, unrideable, for several weeks, is not an option for me. When the rebuild comes back, either keep it for a spare, and swap in the future, OR...sell it as a good rebuild in the classified or on ebay. It looks like a good product, but in the future...how will it play out? Edited October 29, 2010 by tx2sturgis
Sylvester Posted October 30, 2010 #38 Posted October 30, 2010 Alright all you naysayers, read on. I have an 02 RSMV with 132,xxx miles (not km) on it. I have never replaced the mono shock, I have never had a whine, and I have never had a chirp. I try to keep 40 psi in my shock at all times, and believe that this is why I don't have any problem. I have friends with 06 & 07 RSV's with 30k-40k miles and they have not had any problems. There I said IT!

There I said IT! dood, ya jjst jinxed yourself.. mou'ahahahaha I didn't realize I had a dead shock until it was pointed out to me.. twice!! Your shock might be dead without you knowing it.. Perhaps you're deaf and can't hear the whine.. or the chirp.. or learned to tune it out.. But good on ya if your shock is holding up that well.. My 2006 with 79,000 miles on it went through two shocks in a year.. now it's out of warranty and I'm waiting for the Works shock to come in.. I think there is enough anecdotal evidence to suggest these shocks fail prematurely and frequently enough to be of an issue.. Look at all the VStars out there on the roads.. gazillions and no notable problems with their shocks.. Makes ya wonder..
djb47 Posted July 12, 2011 #40 Posted July 12, 2011 No problems with mine yet but curious. Is the Works unit air adjustable? Just got my new Works shock this week. No they are not air adjustible, I don't think they are adjustible at all except raising or lowering the spring. You tell them what setting you want when you order.
