My bikes have only been on trailers when I purchased them, and only If I had to go by myself to get them.

 

Even my Sportster has never been on or in a trailer since I have had it.

I think 1 out of every 5 Harley's I saw going to Biketoberfest were on a trailer.

The only time Sylverter was on a trailer was a trip to Rogers AR for Star Days. My wife had some leg and back issues so I trailered. When we got back home the next week I swore not to do that again. That trip was 2008 and I have not done it again.

You do know that the bike can take you there correct? Just rode mine 2600+ miles in a week and these bikes just love to go down the road. Just get on it, hit the starter and off you go. Stop when you get tired and start again the next day.

New guy here... But I agree. I'm still debating the purchase of a RSTD or Venture but my Concours has taken me 1500+ miles in a day and 3700 in 5. Hope these will be as "rideable"

 

If I want to vacation with the family AND have the bike for early morning jaunts...it's in the trailer she goes.

I figured my response would a raise and eyebrow or two. Those that know me know that I ride. We take at least one 4000 to 5000 mile trip each summer and a few weekends thrown in along the way. However, as a payback for going on my touring trips my wife gets her beach vacation in the fall and she takes far too much stuff to take the bike. So we compromise and I trailer it to Florida. While she's on the beach I putz around on the bike and then we take evening rides. It's a compromise that works for us.

Occasionally, as I did back during my birthday week on a trip to the coast, I will trailer my bike. It makes it very convenient to be able to pack what you want and to not worry about having to adjust for bad weather. I knew going to the Outer Banks that weather would be an issue and being there from Friday to Wednesday gave me three good days that I put 450 miles on the bike. I then took the car on the ferry over to Okracoke Island and got caught up in Tropical Storm Nicole. Yes, it would have been great to be able to enjoy the bike there, but a tropical storm on a bike is not my idea of having a good time. And, having a good time is what I did.

I will say that I have no reservation trailering any bike I own. There are some times when you want to get a hoof on it and run. 750 miles on a bike in a day will kill you, easier in a vehicle where your a bit more comfortable. Of course we will all bust eachothers chops about doing it, but sometimes when you get old it's nice to run in air conditioning and enjoy the trip a bit more

Well I will trailer mine in January and drive south from Illinois til I get to warmer weather. I will then find a place to leave my truck and trailer for a week or so and ride down to Florida and go down and back up each coast with a day in Key West. Would rather trailer it out of the weather verses not riding it at all.

Whenever I see a bike on a trailer I try to ask the driver "so whats wrong with your bike?"

 

I agree that the only time to put a bike on a trailer is when it is being hauled to the shop.

 

My H-D spends more time on a trailer than on the road.... Do you want to buy it?????? $17,000 US and it is yours...

 

 

 

 

That said, I did trailer my 2010 Honda Gold Wing from the dealership to Squid Acres as I could not find a ride to the dealership..........

Yeah, wait until all these 40-59 year old 'studs' crack the 60 barrier. It's nice traveling 400 miles through sand and sagebrush with the a/c on in 100+ temps. The only killer is the mpg. Trailered to Cody last year and sucked fuel like a horse eating oats. Going to ride to the 2011 International in Cody next year, but going north into Oregon Washington. I've seen enough of the Nevada desert to last a lifetime. I'll still be bring a trailer, but this time I'll be dragging it....

We trailer when we have limited time for vacations, it's easier to hook the trailer to the RV and drive straight through to where we're going. Especially since the wife rides a HD 883 and taking that thing across country beats her to death. We trailer in ride for 5 days then trailer home... nice and neat..
