Yammer Dan Posted November 5, 2007 #7 Posted November 5, 2007 My Avon didn't look anywhere near that Good at 5,700 miles. The cords were showing in several places...
FROG MAN Posted November 5, 2007 #8 Posted November 5, 2007 My Avon didn't look anywhere near that Good at 5,700 miles. Dan thats the difference between the 1200 vs 1300. Wv twisties and a good right hand bring out the best of those 1200's. I got 5K out of my dunlop?
RoadKill Posted November 5, 2007 #9 Posted November 5, 2007 , but how many of us could get 15000 out of any tire ??? 15,500miles on the rear avon I just replaced on my 2003!
LGR Posted November 5, 2007 #10 Posted November 5, 2007 I usely get 22,000 to 26,000 on frt and R on my 2nd gen ven with avon. My wife just replaced her avons with new ones and she got 24,000 on frt and R. I put 36psi in front and 41psi in rear. She rides a 2000 nomad.
GeorgeS Posted February 12, 2008 #11 Posted February 12, 2008 for anyone interested here is a cross section of an avon venom rear tire i took off the bike yesterday. 15,000 miles, mainly highway miles, one up. jim Thanks for the Photo's, looks like almost 1/2 inch thick caseing, and 5 ply's of cord. I am estimateing that the visable side tread in the photo, seems to be 1/4 inch. So, thats about same as the Dunlop " Elite II " Rear that I cut open. That makes me feel better about the Avon, Rear. The Front is the one I am concerned about here. My front, at 8K, and virtually NO measurable wear. The stone went thru the " Full " Tread width, and the caseing. Anybody have a " Front " to cut open ?? I will cross section mine when I get it off. Thanks for the photo's
GeorgeS Posted March 12, 2008 #12 Posted March 12, 2008 I pulled the Avon Venom off the Front yesterday, the one the Stone punched a hole in. Here is a cross section view. I measure 5/16 inch thick, Caseing, AFTER, the Tread is worn smooth.
1BigDog Posted March 15, 2008 #13 Posted March 15, 2008 One thing I am noticing in these photos......All that wear and the rubber is still intact!!!! Hey Metzeler..you guys paying attention???
hig4s Posted March 15, 2008 #15 Posted March 15, 2008 Gawd, I can't believe when I saw the pics of the new Avons I actually thought "Oh, sweet" And I don't even need tires yet.
Tom Posted March 15, 2008 #16 Posted March 15, 2008 My first set of Avon's I received yesterday ! Ive run one set of Avons and wore em out,had to put metz 880s on(All I could get at that moment and in a hurry)..only 1700 miles and they started coming apart, bought another set of Avons and that is what I wil buy as long as I can ride..UNBELIEVABLE handling difference.
cecdoo Posted March 16, 2008 #17 Posted March 16, 2008 Ordered my Avons today, went with the slimmer front tire:cool10:
