Blackjack Posted November 4, 2007 #2 Posted November 4, 2007 I, too, am looking for a portable CB unit, one that I can move from bike to bike. It does not appear to me that this unit is anything other than a hand-held, meaning that there is no plug-in for a helmet-attached speaker and microphone. Is that correct? Terry
Black Owl Posted November 4, 2007 Author #3 Posted November 4, 2007 Terry, From the literature, I believe you are correct. Was hoping that someone on the site would have some hands on experience with this unit. J&M sells a wiring harness to be used with portable CB's that lets you use your helment headset and mic. About $300.00 some odd $ if I remember correctly....... Way to rich for my blood.

Would appreciate any comments, pro or con........... Thanks much. I originally looked at that unit but ended up buying a hand held Cobra 38wsx instead, and velcro'd it to the left dash area. I wish I'd have gone ahead and popped for the 75 with the remote mike as hearing or talking with the 38 above 10mph is hopeless. 'Specialy with the MACs back there. The only con I can see with the 75 is having to install a mounted antenna and run co-ax to the distribution box. The pro is you can remove it by just unscrewing the remote head coupler.
flb_78 Posted November 4, 2007 #5 Posted November 4, 2007 I'd get a Cobra 38 instead http://www.cobra.com/index.php?page=shop/flypage&product_id=97&id=1 and then for helmet use, you can get any of the 2 pin headsets or earbuds that are pretty common. All the 2 pins are interchangeable between brands. http://cgi.ebay.com/Full-face-Helmet-Headset-for-Icom-Stardard-Cobra-2-pin_W0QQitemZ170165697304QQihZ007QQcategoryZ48707QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem and the 12 volt power cord to plug into a cig lighter is only 7 bux. http://www.cobra.com/index.php?page=shop/flypage&product_id=223&id=1 That's what I would do.

I tried Radio Shack in Ft Collins....no luck. A new 38 comes with a 12vdc cig-cord.
