I for the most part over the years have been happy with them. I am not crying over the recent lost of some Fox programming. One side says this and the other says that. Who knows what is really going on. The truth is somewhere in the middle I suspect.

 

I do (well did) watch SOA. I won't be any longer if or until they reach an agreement. If not, oh well. I am not leaving sleep over it. Kids and I did like National Geographic channel though. Just means more Nick Jr. for them.

 

Anyway starting my story now. I am window shopping to either go back to cable or another satellite provider as hoping to find something a bit cheaper for the same channels I like. I wanted to compare the channel lineups from the others vs. Dish. I do this by printing the lineups for each provider.

 

So I am on the Dish Site and do not log in. I click on the learn more button under the current programming (America's top 250 btw). There is a field labeled Region. I enter in my zip code and press the thing that looks like a sideways triangle. To the far right of that in small letters there is a button that says print. I clicked on it which takes me to another page and a print dialog. I click cancel on the print dialog. I scroll all the way to the bottom and in the local channel section I don't get my local channels.

 

I have tried this several times. I have gotten San Fran, Houston, Evansville (at least closer), and tonight DC. Obviously not Indy.

 

So I e-mailed the web-master saying your site ain't working right and here is the steps I took. I get a response saying local programming is not offered in my area. Uh, yeah it is. Part of response to them was did you actually try and do the same thing as me before you responded?

 

So here is the experiment for everyone here. Follow the steps as I did and see if you get the same type of results.

You can still watch alot of the programming you want. Just go to the websites you can watch SOA FX's website. Good luck finding stuff much cheaper.

Same here, tried u-verse and cable, none have any service this far out. Called direct, as of now, it looks as if they are abour 60 a month cheaper. now if I cab get out of my two year HD contract......................

I LOVE DirectTV. Lot's of HD and some exclusive sports stuff.

I just stick with broadcast... Although I still need one of those fancy pants analog to digital converter things so I can see something other than snow (well, the cosmic microwave background radiation).

 

But, with that said, I am happy with the channels I get - I figure it is better than anything else on TV as is.

Did you watch Undercover Boss last night? They did a profile on Direct TV. The employees they showed seemed pretty genuine but with the supply issue, not sure if I would want to switch to them at this time.

 

At one point they ran out of flux capacitor's (or something ) and one of the tech's said how am I supposed to work now. Not keeping your techs working isn't good. Wondering if they get paid by the job.

 

Also having one tech calling many other techs to see if they have a certain receiver isn't good either.

 

Hopefully they have fixed this now since they filmed vs. air time.

 

I am sure other providers have similar issues too.

I have found the Dish web site to be cumbersome to use and just don't go there for information. I am how ever happy with their service. I also miss watching SOA but I don't want Dish to make a deal with fox that will cost me more to have Fox networks. Let's face it, we all pay way to much for TV services.

I used to be with Dish until I had a bad expierence with them about 6 or 7 years ago. I switched over to Direct and have been very happy with them. Dish is always fighting with some provider over price and losing and then regaining channels. I have never lost a channel with direct and have had excellent service from them. Last month my reciever went out after 5 years and even though I am not under contract with them they sent me a new DVR reciever free of charge and because I owned the old reciever I now own the new one. I thought that was great service.

Gotta agree with that. Don't know about you but I don't listed to the 50 (or however many) music channels. Just wish they could make things ala carte.

 

FX has the same thing like Hula in regards to episodes. They only have episode 1 of this season so far. Like I said no biggie.

 

I was going to check into Comcast, but a co-worker just called and the fees they want for this, that and the other are just absurd. Something like a $120 hookup fee and they worked it down to $70. How about $20 at the most.

 

For what I have now in Dish, I already looked and I would be paying more for Direct TV so don't think I am going that route either. I haven't been unhappy with Dish. I have a phone line issue that Verizon refuses to fix (don't get me started and I won't go off on my Verizon-now Frontier rant) so my satellites weren't hooked up to a working phone line for a few months. Called Dish and they sent me 3 boxes free. 1 to plug into the working phone line and 2 that just plug into a wall socket and you plug the phone line from this box to each receiver. The 1st box sends a signal to the other 2 boxes wirelessly to make the receiver think it is hooked up to a phone line. That alone saves on the bill.

Use to be with Dish but due to lousy, and I really mean lousy service, I fired them. Went with Direct TV and what a difference. Great service, far, far more HD channels. Had a problem with one of the DVRs here and they were out the next day and replaced it with no quesions asked. Of course, they love me. I have 8 receivers, two of which are HD DVRs and my monthly bill is "are you crazy dude". Uverse came out and tried selling me a package. I found out they are even worse than Dish. No thanks. Oh btw, with Direct TV, I get all my local channes, then some.

Similar experience with both satellite companies. They promise local channels but never deliver... so,,, hooked up the 'puter to the TV, put up the rabbit ears for the 2 local stations, and have been happy ever since. If I want local ABC or FOX news/programming switch to rabbit ears. If I want SOA or other series/specials, I go online to the network websites/hulu etc. My favorite site however is eztv.it , it has programs for download from the U.S. and all over the world.

We have cable at home and a dish at the cottage where we were happy with an old fashioned antenna but my son it law who is a teckie wanted a dish and helped us get one). I like the cable service much better.

Funny how they can drop programming that was part of your contract with no problem. But when you want to drop them, they want extra $$ for cancellation.

Just be careful of DirectTV. I was with them for about 4 years and still paying for basic cable so I could get local channels. (Before Congress mandated they offer them) When I finally realized that it would be cheaper going with cable I dropped DTV and then the harassment started. Phone calls all the time wanting me back, when I told them to stop calling they kept on. Finally I threatened to turn them into our Attorney General. Guess what, they then sent me an official document claiming I am "Stealing" their signal. (Still had the dish on my house) They demanded $10,000.00 and they would drop their case against me. I said "Bring it on" then went searching for a lawyer. No lawyers in our area would touch the case claiming they represented DTV in some fashion or another. Anyway, the Internet can be a wonderful source of information and I found out about a Class Action Suit against DTV for exactly the same thing. Harassing phone calls and then letters claiming that you are stealing their signal. We won the case and I received somewhere in the neighborhood of $600.00.

 

It's nice to see the big guy lose now and then.

 

I doubt they still have those things going on, but just be careful.

Looks like ill be sticking with Comcast cable. Direct TV tried to get a signal reading here but we have too many trees blocking the dish. While id like a better price for tv service, I also want hassle free viewing too. Seems that sattelite tv is just too much bother.

Can anyone remember when all tv service was FREE????

First paid tv service was Wometco TV in NY back in the early 80's. It was beamed off the WTC building and provided movie channels for about 12 bucks a month back then. Sure have come a long way since.

Yea, There was only 3 channels unless you had UHF and when the President came on it messed up all our shows cause he was on all 3 channels.
