Midicat Posted October 8, 2010 #1 Posted October 8, 2010 This is driving me nuts! I went out for a short spin today and all was good. The radio was loud the sun was shinning and the traffic was light. Then it happened. I hit a small bump in the road (cuz they aren't as smooth as glass in Niagara), and my radio went into seek mode. It flipped to a new station and then moved onto the next station. It did this for quite a while. Obvious to me I have a short somewhere but I'm not sure where to start. I was thinking about opening up the left handle bar control to clean it. Any thoughts on this? Anyone? Thomas
utadventure Posted October 8, 2010 #2 Posted October 8, 2010 When I first got my '86 I would hit a bump and the left speaker would disappear. I found that the radio didn't seat all the way into the connectors (mounted) in the faring directly under the radio. Check that first. Dave
mbrood Posted October 8, 2010 #3 Posted October 8, 2010 On mine, I pulled the radio tray (removeable) and put some tiny washers under the blue connectors in the radio "well" so that they were raised by the thickness of the washers. Now when I "seat" the radio tray it seats much better into the connectors. I guess the inner "well" must bend over time??
Marcarl Posted October 8, 2010 #4 Posted October 8, 2010 They took the words right out of my mouth,,,, now I can't look smart anymore,,, heck I just don't look anymore,,, clothed or neaked.
Midicat Posted October 11, 2010 Author #5 Posted October 11, 2010 Thanks for pointing me in the direction of "re-seating" the radio. After a couple of attempts, all is well. Thomas
