Guest Posted October 4, 2010 Share #2 Posted October 4, 2010 If I remember correctly the rear has a smaller hole then the front. I used the rear stock elbow up front once and it barely sealed. I went with an aftermarket front angled valve instead, available at most cycle shops. What I did do however was have the stems rotated to come out on the right side (highside) of the bike so it makes adding air a little easier. etcswjoe Posted October 4, 2010 Share #3 Posted October 4, 2010 I read one time you need to make sure the 90 is short enough not to hit the brake caliper on the front.
Lone Eagle Posted October 4, 2010 Share #4 Posted October 4, 2010 Do NOT - whatever you do - get a 90 degree that has rubber at the base - example of one I got from Cycle Gear on day and had installed on my front tire. That rubber base developed a hair line crack - causing a front tire blow out at 50MPH - wasn't fun. Immediatly had it replaced with an all metal (or whatever) 90 degree stem. Evidently, those rubber based ones came from China - and from my understanding, all were recalled for the reason above.

Ruffy, thanks for the headsup on that, great idea. Steve

davecb Posted October 11, 2010 Share #7 Posted October 11, 2010 My 07 a came with a 90 degree on the rear, don't need it on the front.........
KAWoodworth Posted October 11, 2010 Share #8 Posted October 11, 2010 Ditto on every thing Lone Eagle said. I was going 65 MPH with my wife on the back when my front tire went out because of the valve stem. Only get the all medal valve stems. The one's I found on the internet were Yamaha racing ones. The were guarenteed for 10 years and said not to replace them with the next tire change.
Leland Posted October 11, 2010 Share #9 Posted October 11, 2010 I have my rear facing the right side and I DO NOT like it. Very inconvenient next to the brake rotor. Next tire change, I'm going back to the left (tire stems only).
rod Posted October 12, 2010 Share #10 Posted October 12, 2010 Have them angle the stem at 45 deg not straight out. It gives you more room to get the air chuck on. I put them pointing to the right side. Rod
