Goat Roper Posted October 4, 2010 #1 Posted October 4, 2010 1999 RSV, 65K miles. Oil is leaking from the left side of the motors, appears to possibly be in from of the peg. Honestly I cannot see where it is coming from. leak is bad enough that you can see it streak down the exhaust pipe on the left side. Is there any "usual" failing gasket up there that this most likely is? Left side, bad; http://www.webtrendsguy.com/images/rsv/oilbad.jpg Right side is clear. http://www.webtrendsguy.com/images/rsv/oilgood.jpg
MiCarl Posted October 4, 2010 #2 Posted October 4, 2010 You could have said something about the mirror. Looked at first like it was being born breech....... That's the exact place a 1st gen has oil when it leaks around the stator wires.
buddy Posted October 4, 2010 #3 Posted October 4, 2010 Like stated (Stator wiring) left side cover - Check the wiring grommet they been own to leak pretty good also if the side cover has been remove at one time ? check the side cover bolts maybe be loose as well which I found to be my problem at one time tighten the bolts up and no more leaks..
Goat Roper Posted October 4, 2010 Author #4 Posted October 4, 2010 You are right MiCarl, I should have mentioned the mirror. I will look into this this week using your thoughts. Very much appreciated!
Guest Kemo Posted October 4, 2010 #5 Posted October 4, 2010 I had the same problem on my 1999 found it to be a bad oil pan gasket. small crack on left side right beside kickstand.
