Flyinfool Posted October 1, 2010 #1 Posted October 1, 2010 One of my co workers was T-boned on his bike (Honda 500) this morning on his way into work. Details are still a little sketchy. What I do know so far The cage that hit him ran a stop sign. He was transported by Flight for Life helicopter from the main hospital here in Racine to a major medical complex in Milwaukee. I know that he has multiple compound fractures of the leg and foot. I do know that he wears a helmet so I hope that end of him is OK.
RandyR Posted October 1, 2010 #2 Posted October 1, 2010 some people think stop signs are for other people. Others are just too busy polishing their nails or texting their friends to bother with the inconvenience of looking where they're going.

Flyinfool Posted October 1, 2010 Author #5 Posted October 1, 2010 I still do not know if it was distracted driving or the old "I looked but did not see him". It will be quite a while before I can get to see him to find out more.
Flyinfool Posted October 4, 2010 Author #6 Posted October 4, 2010 My coworker has had surgery on his leg on Friday, another on Saturday and another on Sunday with more to come. They still do not know if they can save anything below the knee, but they are trying. The gal that hit him has a constantly changing story. First she said that she was only going 25mph when she hit him, then the cop pointed out that it was only 10 feet from the stop sign to the point of impact, so she said she was going 5 mph. The distance that he was thrown was consistent with 40 mph in a 25 zone. The fastest sports cars can not get to 25 let alone 40 in 10 feet. Then she changed her story again to the sun was in her eyes so she could not see him. This was at around 7:00am and she was heading west so the sun was at her back. The police are looking at possible criminal charges, and have subpoenaed her cell phone records to see if that was a factor. Kens only injuries were the crush injuries to his leg, other than a few very minor scuffs and bumps, He does wear ATGATT, All of his gear is FUBAR. I'll post more when I hear more.
RandyR Posted October 4, 2010 #7 Posted October 4, 2010 Unfortunately, in Georgia "I didn't see him" seems to be adequate defense to be let go (from criminal charges) when you hit a motorcycle. Hoefully, its not that case where you are.

I'm just glad they are looking into it that deep, I know some of our LEO's would not, to busy to mess with it such...
OutlawRider Posted October 5, 2010 #10 Posted October 5, 2010 Flyinfool, Prayers sent your way for your coworker. Hope they can save his leg.
gunboat Posted October 6, 2010 #12 Posted October 6, 2010 best wishes and prayers for your friend. reguards don c.
Flyinfool Posted October 6, 2010 Author #13 Posted October 6, 2010 Well they had a big meeting with the family and doctors at the hospital. The options were; 1. A series of at least 9 surgeries spread out over the next 12-18 months and continuous physical therapy, with a very poor prognosis for a functional foot at the end. 2. Remove the leg. Ken is now minus his right leg. They had to remove it just below the knee. They also just discovered 2 cracked vertebra and 2 damaged disks in his back, this is not expected to have long term effects.
Yammer Dan Posted October 7, 2010 #14 Posted October 7, 2010 I had that choice and kept mine. Hope it does good with whatever he ends up with. If I had it to do over I think I would have made the same decision. Glad he doesn't have other injuries to deal with at same time. That don't make it fun. Hope they Hang her. I'll provide a rope!!!
