royalstarjac Posted September 22, 2010 #1 Posted September 22, 2010 Which one would you rather be riding? [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=18zKUlxWW08&feature=player_embedded]YouTube - crashtest honda goldwing 1800[/ame]
GaryZ Posted September 22, 2010 #2 Posted September 22, 2010 I wonder what the accident statistics are for a motorcycle running straight into the side of a minivan without turning, braking, driver bailing off, etc? If I were to ride straight into the side of a minivan . . . - I probably had a heart attack and was already dead - The speed would be so great, all the safety gear and an airbag wouldn't save me
KiteSquid Posted September 22, 2010 #3 Posted September 22, 2010 I would rather be riding the bike with the airbag. That is why I bought one just after totoaling my RSV.
hig4s Posted September 22, 2010 #4 Posted September 22, 2010 I'd prefer to not hit the SUV at all, but I have seen a lot of studies, and early test vids that Honda did, and no doubt in my mind they can help. As far as the stats, from what I have read, head on to side of left turning cage is the most common bike/cage accident. And the most common comment by cage drivers is "But officer, I didn't see it."
Condor Posted September 22, 2010 #5 Posted September 22, 2010 I saw that exact same thing happen about 6 months ago without the bag. Thought the guy was dead. He lived...miracles do happen. That bag looks like it gives off an E ticket ride.
Yammer Dan Posted September 23, 2010 #6 Posted September 23, 2010 Never say never. I would have bet my last two accidents could not have happened. My last close call was sliding to a stop when a B**** pulled out in front of me while on Cell phone. If I bought a Wing I think I would want the bag.
Trader Posted September 23, 2010 #7 Posted September 23, 2010 so the airbag is an actual option on the goldwing???? Seatbelts too?
Condor Posted September 23, 2010 #8 Posted September 23, 2010 OK, here's a devils advocate question. If you had the air bag would you ride more relaxed and a little less attentive??
hig4s Posted September 23, 2010 #9 Posted September 23, 2010 OK, here's a devils advocate question. If you had the air bag would you ride more relaxed and a little less attentive?? Not a chance, I'm one paranoid hombre on a bike.
FutureVentures Posted September 23, 2010 #10 Posted September 23, 2010 Yes the airbag is an option, seen em in person. But you pose a funny question that might have a serious answer. In that particular video, doesn't it seem that if the rider were seatbelted and had n airbag, facial impact would be far less?
Flyinfool Posted September 23, 2010 #11 Posted September 23, 2010 Yes in that particular vid a seat belt may have helped. But there is no way you would want to be belted in if you were to lay it down at speed. It is far to likely that the bike would start to tumble and I would want the option of kicking away from it.
Jercoupe Posted September 23, 2010 #12 Posted September 23, 2010 The video on the left looks very familar, right down to the broken drivers window. I didnt realize we sprayed glass all over the girl that pulled out in front of us. Now I feel bad for her. Of course at the time I was feeling worse and didnt care.
scotty Posted September 23, 2010 #13 Posted September 23, 2010 I wish mine had the air bag:crying:. Oh well, maybe when I trade it off.
