When I wind her up through the gears I am getting an oil warning light. Several others have said this is normal for the VR.

What say you? Squid? Dingy? Others?

When under extreme duress by liberal use of the right-wrist-twist technique, the oil rushes to the back of the sump, exposing the contacts for the oil switch and sending a ground to the CMU input and triggering the light.

If it does it randomly, then the wire is chaffed somewhere and touching a grounding point.

thats normal for these beast when I had my 83 it would do the same thing when I was running mine hard. all its for is a low warning light for the oil and when your ridding it hard the oil will move around some causing the light to come on. As long as you have plenty of oil in the case at least have the sight glass don't even worry about it just check your level once in a while and let the beast run wild or ride it like you stole it......

My 85 does that too under hard acceleration. I always have the oil halfway in the glass and I dont burn any so its ok.

It still kinda unnerves me when it happens, but I am getting used to it. I really noticed under hard accelleration in a steep incline, when i was at Kruisn the Koots rally the mountain passes were fun with a good bit of accelleration.

Does the same thing on mine. At first it was a concern. But I have gotten used to it.

This was what I guessed was happening.

Thanks everyone for the quick responses!

Mine has never done it. Likely because I keep my oil level towards the high mark. It may come on when accelerating up the steep hills by me. But I don't look at the instruments when riding. After 21 years with this beast I know when to shift. I just ride.

My oil level was down at the "low" mark.

I added to the upper mark and the light isn't coming on.

Just like someone said, this warning light is an actual low oil warning instead of a low pressure warning. Good to know!
