valic007 Posted September 18, 2010 #1 Posted September 18, 2010 well guys my names Bob im new to the forums im and new owner of a 1986 Venture i picked up for 800 dollars its in really nice shape and it ran well for 1 day lol talk about a let down so heres how it started i started it and it was running way rich and when i went to pull out it kept stalling so i checked spark and im not getting spark to the rear 2 cylinders ive seen alot on here about the TCI box and how there at fault for most spark issues and im wondering if its the same problem for me if i know people move them to the top of the airbox but i dont even know where to find the TCI box to move it up and maybe hope that all it needs is to dry out any help would be great thanks all
friesman Posted September 18, 2010 #2 Posted September 18, 2010 There is an issue with the wires getting corroded in the cap of the coil. maybe ensure the wires are tight and that the wires are connected and clean. If the wires are old try some new ones, they arent that expensive, especially compared to trying to find a TCI. Brian
Trader Posted September 18, 2010 #3 Posted September 18, 2010 Did you wash it? I know mine is allergic to water! if so...try WD40
valic007 Posted September 18, 2010 Author #4 Posted September 18, 2010 nope i didnt wash it but ill look at the wires and make sure there clean and get back to ya thanks
mrich12000 Posted September 18, 2010 #5 Posted September 18, 2010 With the engine off tke an old spark plug and ground it to the engine. Turn on the engine ,observe the spark or lack of spark do it to both cylenders .. Go from there .
bongobobny Posted September 19, 2010 #6 Posted September 19, 2010 There is a connector coming from the pickup coils about halfway up the frame that can cause you to loose one set of timing marks from the PU coil. Clean and reconnect, or better still hard wire that puppy. It gives a symptom of 2 cylinders not firing...

bkuhr Posted September 19, 2010 #9 Posted September 19, 2010 i dont even know where to find the TCI box to move it up and maybe hope that all it needs is to dry out any help would be great thanks all Under and forward of the battery box is the tray the coils are on, bolted to the bottom of this tray is the TCI box, with connector facing where the battery box was. Very very difficult to get off with fairings on, but possible.

friesman Posted September 20, 2010 #11 Posted September 20, 2010 Ur right, it does look cooked to me too, I know the tci's are getting hard to find, so i do wish you luck in finding a good deal on an oem one. there is a thread in here where some guys ordered new replacements from Ignitech, a Czech company. they are a generic module, but some of the guys have had good luck with their custom programming. http://venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=40414&highlight=replacement+tci brian
mrich12000 Posted September 20, 2010 #12 Posted September 20, 2010 :fingers-crossed-emoOh boy that power transistor looks pooched.
