hillrider Posted September 16, 2010 #1 Posted September 16, 2010 Looking for opinions of Consumer Cellular. I need to find a new plan for the mothers and on the surface this looks ok. They charge on incoming and outgoing, but the old women don't use cells much, so that's ok. Lots of complaints on the web, but you can find lots of comlaints about ice cream if you look close enough. Anybody actually using this company? Thoughts?
silverdeer0454 Posted September 16, 2010 #2 Posted September 16, 2010 Just signed up for their service a few days ago based on inputs from some of my co-workers. I'm getting 2 lines, 500 min, 2 new phones, same phone number. Total cost is expected to be around $50 a month compared to the average $80 bill from T-Mobile. It seems like their coverage map looks alot like Sprints coverage. I work in Casino Surveillance and we are basically in a 25X30 foot steel box (because of the fire suppression system) and we can get cell phone coverage from every carrier except T-Mobile. You can get an AARP discount as well and they have a phone designed for seniors that is easy to operate.
BigBoyinMS Posted September 16, 2010 #3 Posted September 16, 2010 (edited) FYI, Consumer Cellular uses ATT's network so it's the same coverage as ATT. The main plus (from what I have read) is CC uses their own US based customer service and they are supposed to be good to deal with. Edited September 16, 2010 by BigBoyinMS
pa_don Posted September 20, 2010 #4 Posted September 20, 2010 If you have any of the major carriers it may be less expensive to just "add a line" and share minutes under a family plan. Most additional lines start at $9.99 + taxes. If you need a separate plan and you don’t need many minutes you can use Jitter bug (http://www.jitterbug.com/RatePlans/). They use Verizon Wireless network, have US based customer service and really focus on concierge services. Phone choices are limited but the design is and use is unbelievable. They were designed with "seniors" in mind and have one on the best ear pieces on the market. Hope this helps. pa_don
silent67 Posted September 21, 2010 #5 Posted September 21, 2010 Just get a Tracfone, 100 bucks a year for either 800 or a 1000 minutes.
