Pic of my new Ride

Recommended Posts

when I bought our 04 RSV, it was already lowered in thre rear with links and the forks were adjusted to follow. that is a good thing because I am short as well. my caliper is in its factory position and i have not had any trouble with handling other than what is my fault. I have not found any negative effects with the lowering that was done to our scooter. I do tend to scrape the floorboards sooner than a non lowered bike but that is really not a problem.

Thank you, another option I hadn't considered. That doesn't sound very difficult to do either. thanks.

I have no shortage of dumb questions, and I really appreciate all the input you guys are offering, so here's still another. :)

There are 2 antennas on the bike, one I assume is a CB? which I won't be using, so I may take it off and store it. The other is the radio I believe. Is that whip antenna really necessary for the radio or has anyone experimented with a stubby little antenna that is not quite so conspicuous? Thank you. :)

I like the antennae's. use the search button in the top menu bar and see the different options and how to do them as well as where to buy the necessary components.

there are many combinations for the antennae issue. don't rule out your CB radio yet, you never know when you will use channel 29.

I bought my 2000 RSV in 2007, with 3,300 miles on it. Then I found this forum and starting learning about its "excentricities." I went through the same thing you are now, wondering if I had made a mistake. It's like reading a medical text book, thinking, "OMG, I have all these symptoms! I must be sick." Not to worry. Most of the problems on this bike (see the Known Problems thread) are fixable. Maybe the owner before you fixed some of them already. Read that forum, it was a HUGE help to me. Yes, I wish Yamaha had built it better to begin with, but they didn't. The good news is, most of the "fixes" are cheap. Do yourself a favor, and check ALL the items listed that you are able to. I'm no mechanic, but I was able to check most of them myself. I now have over 42,000 miles on it, and I absolutely LOVE it. Never was able to make the whine go away, though. I've learned to live with it. I just think of it as a jet turbine. Hopefully, 3 years from now, you'll be as happy with yours as I am with mine. BTW, I have some extra parts, Road King mufflers and Genmar handlebar risers. I tried them, but they weren't to my liking. If you want them, you can have 'em for the cost of shipping. Let me know if you're interested. Don

P.S. I would keep the CB antenna on. You can turn the CB off on the radio head unit. I usually do because I get sick of the "F-ing this and F-ing that" chit chat. But when you need it, you can turn it back on. I haven't tried any of the radio antenna variations because I don't mind the long whip antennas. It's nice that they fold down so you can put a cover on.

I'm learning a bit more about the bike now. From the warranty info I found the original selling dealer and called him. Nice guy, he practically wanted my first born child to divulge any info about the bike. Finally he told me the owner laid it over cause he was short (hmm, like me) and dented the tank. They replaced the tank, and it didn't come with badges. He also told me the owner then had the bike lowered.

(how can I tell how they did that?)

Then he said, (can you believe) if I wanted more info and he had to spend more time with me, I had to buy something from him. Wow, nice guy. I didn't dare ask about the original dented tank. Geez ......

You need to let us know the name of this gracious dealer so we can make sure we buy something from him if we need him to answer a question. After all I would be embarrassed to show up at his dealership and ask a question only to be told I need to buy something from him if I wanted an answer. As for being gently dropped I would do some more research into that. I have dropped mine 3 times and have never dented the tank. The engine guards get pushed back out of place though when you gently drop one of these bikes. Check the lower fairings for cracks or scrapes.
